Hi CUCPJ,
There's a panel tonight "Racial Oppression: State Violence and
Housing&Labor Struggles in the Black Community" at 6:30 in Room 259 of
the English Building on campus. I've been asked to join the panel to
talk about our Coalition for Police Demilitarization. Other friends are
also on the panel.

In the past 12 months, state sponsored violence, or police brutality
against African Americans, has intensified across the nation. The
horrific Ferguson, Missouri episode pushes the systemic and current
reality of racial oppression back at the forefront and allows for
community members, students, and academic figures to discuss the
epidemic of structural racism and how it affects us all, both internally
and externally, and at the national, state, and local level in
Champaign-Urbana and the University of Illinois.
This panel opens serious discussion about the reality of a racial
America and possible strategy planning in the future. Featured speakers
on the panel:
Sundiata Cha-Jua, Associate Professor of History & African American Studies
Ruby Mendenhall, Assistant Professor of Sociology & African American Studies
Byron Clark, Champaign Community Organizer & Activist
Imani Bazzell, Champaign Community Organizer & Media Personality
The panel will be moderated by Augustus Wood III, PhD Student in History.
This event will be held in room 259 of the English Building.
Please join us in having a real discussion about how we will survive,
thrive, and CHANGE America. Snacks and beverages will be served. Bring
as many guests as you can!
