The School for Designing a Society and Patch Adams MD invite you to
construct *your humanism!* Join us for four weeks in Urbana, Illinois (home
of Patch Adams) where we'll offer teaching presentations, experiential
exercises, community living, clowning—all centered around your creating an
action plan to support and protect your humanism.  This elective is for all
people in the caring professions—medicine, education, governance, ecology,
arts, parenting, small/non-profit business.

Clowns in Costa Rica
*Change Artist Retreat*

This fall the School for Designing a Society invites you to help create a
"change artist retreat": an environment that is conducive for people who
are working on a creative social-change project—or a social-change-oriented
art project—to work in solidarity with others.
If you don't yet have a project, but would like to, this might be a good
environment for beginning or joining one.

Several years ago, a participant in the School for Designing a Society
proposed a program called Clowning and Caring—it would combine a Gesundheit
Institute humanitarian clown trip with our workshops in desire & design. We
have now done some 17 of these Clowning and Caring trips.

For the next, we return to Costa Rica, August 28–September 4, 2016. Costa
Rica is a fascinating place to think about designing society: the only
country in the world without a military! This year we will have the
opportunity to participate in a new festival in La Carpio, a precarious
immigrant community in the capital. It will be a time to share visions and
skills with local residents and activists ... and the sense that another
world is possible.
