*Concert of Classical Nagauta Shamisen at Japan House*

Join Spurlock Museum, Japan House and the Robert E. Brown Center for World
Music in welcoming guest artists Chizuru Kineya and Satomayu Kineya of Japan
joined by Tatsu Aoki and Amy Homma of Tsukasa Taiko<http://tsukasataiko.com/>,
Chicago, who will present a concert of classical Nagauta shamisen at Japan
House. This intimate gathering will include a presentation on the history of
shamisen, both the instrument and its music, as well as musical
demonstration and concert performance. Chizuru Kineya is an accredited
master of the instrument from the legendary Kineya Shamisen family. She
began her studies at the age of six and performs widely, making regular
appearances at the National Theater of Japan, conducting educational
workshops, and collaborating with contemporary classical and jazz musicians.
This year she returns to Illinois with Satomayu Kineya, shamisen musician
and instructor at Sankei University, Tokyo, to perform at World Music
Festival Chicago 2010.
