1. Fill out the community service survey... help OVP figure out what to do
http://www.union.uiuc.edu/ovp/resources/survey.htm -- it's quick (8
questions) and will help us figure out how volunteerism is effecting
students.

2. You want to change things. This is your chance. Use your leadership
skills to immediately impact student achievement. Gain the insight, network,
and added commitment to effect meaningful long-term change. TEACH FOR AMERICA
MULTICULTURAL INFORMATION SESSION is on Tuesday February 4th at 7 p.m. for the
African American Cultural Program which, will be held at 708 S. Mathews. Also
the TEACH FOR AMERICA INFORMATION SESSION will also be on Wednesday February
5th at 8 p.m. in the Illini Union, Colonial Room. Teach For America is the
national corps of outstanding recent college graduates of all academic majors
who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools and become
lifelong leaders in the effort to expand opportunity for children. Seeking
all majors. No previous education experience or coursework necessary. Full
salary plus $9,450 education award and loan forbearance. Application deadline
is February 21, 2003. For further information go to www.teachforamerica.org.

3. The first week of February is National Literacy Week! Volunteer Illini
Projects and The Office of Volunteer Programs are hoping to really get
involved, so here's a really easy way to help out: Bring any "brand name",
gently used clothes to the OVP office (2nd floor of the Union, in the RSO
complex), during the FIRST 2 WEEKS OF FEBRUARY. We will sell anything we
collect to Plato's Closet, and donate the funds to a wonderful organization in
the C-U community called The Reading Group, which helps teach children and
adults HOPE to read! Anything you bring will be a huge help! If you don't have
time to help in other ways, this lets you volunteer without the huge time
commitment (and also clean out your closets!) If you have any question AT ALL,
contact Rita (strakovs at uiuc.edu), or call the VIP office @ 333-1020.

4. University of Illinois YMCA is having a Dump and Run Garage Sale. They
need your help with collecting, sorting, selling, and setting up used
merchandise to sell. This will be an ongoing event from 9a.m.-5p.m. everyday!
For any questions contact Amiee Kandrac at 337-1500.

5. The Single Parent Scholarship Foundation is once again participating in the
Bergner's Community Day event and we need volunteers to help sell coupon
booklets for a $5.00 donation. All proceeds will help fund single parents
college expenses fro the 2003 Fall semester. The more they sell, the more
singe parents we can help. Contact Maria Thompson at spsf at soltec.net, or
344-9265.

6. FUSION 2003 -- FUSION is a new organization that has been created with
the mission of creating coalitions through Service, Diversity and
Leadership. FUSION, the Leadership Center and the Office of Volunteer
Programs are working together to organize a series of events to help you
publicize your organization and to learn how you can collaborate with
other organizations. The calendar of events is below. Please feel free
