1. Office of Volunteer Programs' Dialogue Series on Civic Engagement
continues on Wednesday, February 19th at 7PM in 404 Illini Union with the
topic, "Can Your Vote Impact Social Problems?" Come discuss this
important topic with other students as we seek to infuse this campus with
a student voice and action that unleashes the power of students rebuilding
the fabric of democracy. The next dialogues in this series are: Thursday,
March 6th: "Is There An Appropriate Living Wage?" Thursday, April 17th:
"Activism: A Single Voice Can Make A Change." Each dialogue will be held
in 404 Illini Union at 7pm. Please contact Valerie Olson if you have any
questions at the Office of Volunteer Programs in 277 Illini Union or call
at 333-7424.

2. Looking for a fun and rewarding experience over spring break?
Allerton Park is now accepting applications for their "Student Friends of
Allerton Park" program. Enjoy a free week at the beautiful Allerton House
Conference Center, while you participate in trail maintenance, gardening
and restoration projects. For more information, visit the Allerton web
site at http://www.conted.uiuc.edu/allerton/

3. As part of the national Boys & Girls Clubs of America technology
program, which is supported by grants from IBM and Microsoft, our Mahomet
area unit has received ten new, state-of-the-art computers, plus a
comprehensive package of educational software with specially designed
instruction aids. The Mahomet Area Club is seeking volunteers with basic
computer skills to administer classes and supervise computer projects.
Volunteers will each conduct one 40 minute class per week (or more if
volunteer is able to commit more hours) and spend about 20 minutes of
preparation time for each class. Classes will be scheduled to accommodate
volunteer availability on weekdays between 3:30 p.m. and 7:00p.m. during
the remainder of the school year. Each class will be limited to 10 club
members and will cover age appropriate training in basic computer
technology, Internet use & safety, Microsoft Office products, and various
developmental programs. Contact Nancy Harrison, Mahomet Area Unit
Director, at 586-6323 (If calling outside normal club hours, please leave
a message and phone number).

4. Volunteers are needed to take animals into their home for extra care.
Foster animals include, but are not limited to, animals needing
socialization, needing medical treatment, bottle feed babies, and nursing
adults with litters. Volunteer must pay a state licensing fee of $25.00
before fostering. Volunteers must be willing to keep the foster animal
for at least one week, if not longer. Length of time in foster care
depends on the needs of the animal. You will not be asked to foster an
animal that will require more time than you are able to give. (IE: someone
working full time will not be asked to care for bottle babies that need
round the clock feeding). Contact Julie Keith at 217-344-9314.

5. Spike Lee is coming to speak on March 1st here on campus at Foellinger
-- they're looking for volunteers to help usher, take tickets, etc. They
need people to help from about 6-9:30 pm. Monika is the contact over at
Foellinger and she can be reached at 244-0480.

6. Marquette School is looking for volunteers for their Annual Spring
Fling. Come party with the kiddies! This year it will be held on March
13th, a Thursday and they need around 25-30 people to help with the games
(perfect for a large group looking to volunteer together). You'd be
needed from 6:00 to 8:30 in the evening. Contact Maggie Rodriguez-Nieto
at 351-3711.

6. FUSION 2003 -- FUSION is a new organization that has been created with
the mission of creating coalitions through Service, Diversity and
Leadership. FUSION, the Leadership Center and the Office of Volunteer
Programs are working together to organize a series of events to help you
publicize your organization and to learn how you can collaborate with
other organizations. The calendar of events is below. Please feel free
to contact Namita Arora <narora at uiuc.edu> if you have any questions.
