1.  United Way and the Office of Volunteer Programs is hosting the Make A 
Difference Drive.  This drive starts on October 13th (Monday) and continues 
for two weeks.  Supplies such as razors, crayons, markers, diapers, socks, 
folders, notebooks, and others are being collected to be distributed 
throughout the Champaign-Urbana Community to benefit places such as nursing 
homes, day care centers, and other organizations.  Next time you are at IUB, 
Meijer, or Wal-Mart, pick up a few extra supplies and drop them off at these 
campus locations: Illini Union Bookstore, Office of Volunteer Programs,

2.  Alternative Spring Break has announced the Spring Break destinations.  
Check them out at http://www2.uiuc.edu/ro/asb/  Info sessions are going to be 
held on Tuesday, October 7th @ 9 pm in Forbes Hall Main Lounge and Wednesday, 
October 8th @ 9pm in Allen Hall South Rec. Room.  Applications are due by NOON 
on Monday, October 20th for SITE-FACILITATORS or NOON on Monday, October 27th 
for PARTICIPANTS. They can be picked up at the desk at the University YMCA.


3.  The Humane Society is hosting its annual "A Fetching Ball" Dinner and 
Auction fundraiser.  Volunteers are needed to help set up, clean up, and 
mingle with guests during the event.  PLUS you can meet Doug Wilson and Hilda 
Santo-Tomas from the hit TV show Trading Spaces.  The event takes place on 
Friday, November 7, Hawthorn Suites, Champaign. Festivities begin at 6 p.m.

4.  The YMCA is looking for volunteers to help with their Bunk-In program on 
Friday, October 31st.  This program provides parents with a free night to have 
fun and kids with an all night party.  Volunteers will help set up, clean up, 
and have a blast with the kids, who range in ages from 1st grade to 5th grade.
 The event lasts from Friday night at 8pm to Saturday morning at 9am  Contact

5.  The Champaign County Historical Museum is looking for volunteers to help 
with planning, producing, and delivering different outreach programs.  If you 
enjoy talking with the public and giving presentations, this is for you.

6.  Volunteer Meeting

next to Lincoln Square Mall
Prairie Players is sponsoring a Charles Dickens Festival for the first weekend 
in December. December 4 & 5, 2003. The festival will be held at the Historic 
Lincoln Hotel.  We are seeking volunteers, actors, singers, dancers, musicians 
and merchants. The Dickens Festival is an interactive event where the 
performers and participants engage with the patrons.  Actors will portray 
various characters from Dickens books and present small vignettes scenes 
throughout the hotel.   Singers and dancers will perform traditional songs and 
dances of the Victorian era.  Throughout the hotel there will be carolers, 
puppet shows, story tellers, children craft area, toy shop, candy shop, etc. 
Merchants selling their wares:  Victorian clothing, accessories, perfumes, 
oils, soaps, candles, chocolate, fans, books and the list goes on. Volunteers 
are needed to assist with the children's craft area, gift wrap, cloak room, 
silent auction, carolers, strolling minstrels, telegram runners, parlor games,
