1. Operation Helping Hand is a weeklong service event taking place the week
of April 17th. Students all across campus and throughout town will be
volunteering to make Champaign-Urbana a better place to live. If you or a
group of people are looking to change the town we call home while in college,
visit http://www.union.uiuc.edu/ovp/asp/2004ohhvolops.htm to browse through
the opportunities currently available. If you have any question, contact Laura
Brayton in the OVP office at 333-7424 or at ovp at uiuc.edu.
2. The Urbana Park District is having a teen dance on Saturday April 17th
from 7 10 pm. Volunteers are needed to help set-up and clean-up along with
chaperoning and supervising attendees during this event. The location of this
even is at the Phillips Recreation Center at 05 W. Stoughton in Urbana. If you
are interested or need more information contact Ellen at 367-1536 or
erkirsanoff at urbanaparks.org.
3. The Center for Women in Transition (CWIT) is looking for volunteers to
work in the office: answers phones, sort donations, get the women supplies,
interact with residents, help organize storage areas, type thank you letters
to donors, and a little bit of everything else. If you are interested in
helping any time during the day (from 8am to 10pm) contact Diana Dudzienski at
(217) 352-7151
4. The Greater Community AIDS Project (GCAP) is looking for volunteers to
provide various support service programs to HIV individuals and their families
and help out with several annual benefit projects for our organization. If
you are interested in working with GCAP contact Donna Buzicky at (217)
351-2437.
5. Family Service of Champaign County is looking for drivers to provide
people in need with hot nutritious meals, that they would otherwise not
receive. Volunteers will be able to help feed those the need it the most. If
you are interested in helping feed those who cant feed themselves, contact
the Senior Resource Center at (217) 352-5100.
6. Circle of Friends is looking for volunteers to assist day residents of the
adult care center in mixing cookie dough, making holiday treats, etc.
Supervise the "passing of the mixing bowl," measuring, helping staff to clean
up. Then: enjoy the treats and visit with the seniors. If you want to join
the fun of cooking, contact Pam Jacobsen at circle at prairienet.org or 359-7937
7. The Urbana Park District will be hosting a 3 on 3 tournament for teens on
Saturday, April 17th from 12:30 pm to 6:30 pm (this can be split into two
shifts). Volunteers are needed to help set-up and clean-up, registration,
scoring, and record keeping. This event takes place at Phillips Recreation
Center at 505 W. Stoughton in Urbana. If you are interested contact Ellen at
367-1536 or erkirsanoff at urbanaparks.org.
8. AmeriCorps Information - Session Wednesday, April 15th - 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
- Room 209, Illini Union. Are you interested in earning almost $5,000 for
school? AmeriCorps is a national service program where members earn a $4,725
education award in return for one year of service. You can work in education,
the environment, public safety, or unmet human needs. Learn skills for the
future and help others in return. For more information, visit

9. Are you interested in helping make a difference in the community? The
Office of Volunteer Programs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
is looking for an intern for the 2004-2005 school year. For more details and
