1. Operation Helping Hand is a weeklong service event taking place the week
of April 17th. Students all across campus and throughout town will be
volunteering to make Champaign-Urbana a better place to live. If you or a
group of people are looking to change the town we call home while in college,
visit http://www.union.uiuc.edu/ovp/asp/2004ohhvolops.htm to browse through
the opportunities currently available. If you have any question, contact Laura
Brayton in the OVP office at 333-7424 or at ovp at uiuc.edu.
2. Don't miss out on this opportunity to help in one of our seniors' favorite
events! Volunteers will help serve a delicious meal to some of our area
seniors. The dinner takes place on April 13th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. If
you are interested, contact Kristi Bolton at 398-2550
3. The Multicultural Health Center needs volunteers to help organize patient
education materials according to topic and to assist in setting up rotating
displays. Volunteers are needed Apr 16, 2004 (2-4 h in AM or PM), Apr 23,
2004 (2-4 h in AM), or Apr 30, 2004 (2-4 h in AM or PM). If you are
interested, contact Chris Fouse at 265-6267.
4. Volunteers are needed to provide childcare for children of attendees at
state the convention on April 23 in the afternoon from 1:00 - 9:00 PM. If you
are able to help out any portion of this time, contact Kelly Rund at 622-0146.
5. GROW in IL a mutual self help group offering a 12-step program of personal
growth through small weekly meetings, provides support and partial help for
anyone coping with mental or emotional crisis and disorders. Services are
non-denominational, anonymous, free and open to anyone. Volunteers are needed
to help pass out information to the community about 12 step programs on April
17th at 11:00am. If you are interested in helping, contact Kerrie Pruitt at
621-4741.
6. C-U Special Recreation is taking a group of participants to Chanute
Aerospace Museum in Rantoul to clean the airplanes. They are looking for
volunteers to assist the volunteers with disabilities in working at the
museum. This event will take place on April 17th from 10am to 3pm.
Transportation will be provided and lunch will be given by the museum. If you
are interested in helping out, contact Kathy Stiebner at 398-2374
7. Are you interested in helping make a difference in the community? The
Office of Volunteer Programs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
is looking for an intern for the 2004-2005 school year. For more details and
an application, check out the website:

8. Volunteer Recognition Event- The Office of Volunteer Programs needs your
help with our Volunteer Recognition Event on April 24th! 6-8 volunteers are
needed on Friday, April 23rd (in the afternoon) to help set up the room, and

10 volunteers are needed on Saturday, April 24th from 10-
2:30 to set up and serve the food. If you are interested in helping us out,
please contact Lindsay Baran at lbaran at uiuc.edu asap!
9. Walk for Africa- Link Community Development needs help for the Walk for
Africa on Saturday, April 25th. Volunteers are needed to set up and help with
registration and raffle sales @ noon, monitor the Walk at various
intersections throughout its duration, as well as simple attending the Walk
and show support for African poverty relief and HIV/AIDS prevention. For more
information on the Walk or volunteering, contact Lindsay Baran at
lbaran at uiuc.edu.
