1. Therapeutic Horse Back riding has two different volunteer positions
available with this program. The first is the Horse Leader. This should be
someone who is comfortable and familiar with horses. It involves leading the
horse by the lead rope around the arena. We also need 2 volunteers for each
horse and participant called Side Walkers. They simply walk along side the
horse. They help steady the participant, encourage and reassure the
participant, and generally act as moral and physical support for the
participant. We will have 3 participants on horses during each session and
need 3 volunteers per participant. The first session is from 6:30 – 7:15 and
the second is from 7:30 – 8:15 on Tuesdays beginning May 4 and running through
June 1. Therapeutic Riding is held at Stanton Stables at 1102 N 1500 E in
Urbana. This is 3 miles south of Windsor Road and 1 mile West of Rt 130. There
is a one-time 1 ½ hour training for volunteers before the riding begins. If
interested contact Kathy Stiebner at 398-2374.

2. LINC: Learning in Community, the campus-wide course open to ALL
undergraduates where students work in teams on projects for non-profit
agencies (ENG 199), is holding its semi-annual Poster Session -- Thursday,
April 29 anytime between 3:30 - 5 :00 pm in Foellinger Auditorium Lobby. LINC
students have been . . .starting a mobile car detaining business to employ
homeless men, creating videos to promote Habitat for Humanity's store
Homeworks, adapting musical instruments for kids with disabilities, working
with middle school girls on computer-simulated urban planning designs for
Urbana, and much, much more. If you'd like to see what all 16 LINC teams have
been up to this semester, please come to our Poster Session. Bring any
interested friends or family members as well. Hope to see you then:)...

3. Interested in becoming a Girl Scout Leader for next year? You can help
meet girls’ needs for fun, friendship, and a place to belong. Troops typically
meet twice a month for 1 to 1 ½ hours. Experience is not required. We will
train you. Why not get a head start now so you can hit the ground running as
soon as the school year starts in 2004? Contact Deborah Faircloth at 328-5112
for more information.

4. Going to the beach this summer? Going to swim in the ocean? Going to ski
down some mountains? Not if you’re living in Champaign! So besides classes
what are you going to do? Why not volunteer!! Crisis Nursery is looking for
summer volunteers to assist staff in providing a safe, warm, nurturing
environment for children birth-five, whose parents are enduring a crisis.
Volunteers will facilitate play, rock, feed, soothe, love, and take care of
the physical needs of children. If you are interested and don’t want to be
bored watching reruns of Real World and Road Rules, contact Kim Gollings at
volunteer at crisisnursery.net or 337- 2731

5. The Champaign County Humane Society is hosting a Giant Garage Sale to
raise money. Merchandise will be dropped off at the shelter and volunteers
are needed to organize, price, sort, and unload. The collection of materials
will take place May 12 (Noon to 5 pm), May 13 (Noon to 5 pm), May 14 (8 am to
7 pm), May 15 (8 am to 5 pm), and May 16 (11 am to 5 pm). If you are
interested, contact Juile Keith at julie at cuhumane.org or 344-7297

6. C-U Special Recreation is hosting a grilling program for participants who
want to learn to cook outdoors. Volunteers are needed for one-on-one guidance
in food preparation and cooking. Volunteers are not required to know anything
about cooking, and are able to enjoy the feast at the end of the day. The
last session (May 12th) the participants get to show off their cooking skills
when they prepare the “Best BBQ Ever” for the park district. This program
takes place on Wednesdays from 4:30-6:00 at the Hays Center at 1311 W.Church
Street. Transportation may be provided, if necessary. If interested, contact
Kathy Stiebner at 398-2374 for more information.

8. Volunteers are needed May 1st to help in a variety of areas including the
volunteer tent, adoption and souvenir sales, ticket sales, food tent, pepsi
stations, costume characters, and watercraft volunteers. The Duck Race
benefits the Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club. If you are interested in helping,
contact Amanda Cole at 359-4488 or acole at btcservices.net
