1. The University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics is
hosting the NCAA Division I Men's Gymnastics finals April 2-4. We are very
excited to have this prestigious group of young men in our community and want
to make sure that their stay is pleasant. We are, therefore, looking for
12-15 people to serve as ambassadors (one ambassador for each team). The
ambassador will be responsible for calling the team to congratulate them and
then offer assistance in the way of advise and recommendations for food,
lodging and entertainment. Two mandatory training meetings will be held for
all ambassadors in March. Contact Sue Wedig at suew at champaigncounty.org or
217-351-4133

2. A Women’s Fund will be at Market Place Mall to distribute info and
resources to families about child abuse prevention. This event will involve
many community organizations. In early April there will be a "Light of Hope"
vigil at Lincoln Square Mall. There is also the Blue Bow campaign that will
be ongoing all month making and distributing bows for child abuse awareness.
And the final event for the month will be a festival at Douglas Park for
children to have a day in the park doing lots of fun activities. Volunteers
are needed for everything from planning events to making flyers to
volunteering during the events. If you're interested contact Michelle at
355-5214 or cluttsm at awomansfund.org

3. The Champaign County YMCA hosts a event for students in grades 1-5 to come
hang out, swim, dance, eat, and have fun. The event is every third weekend of
the month from 6 – 10pm. They need help with supervision of youth and running
games. Contact Andi Hake or Cheena Davis at 359-9622 or family at ccymca.net

4. The University YMCA is looking for college age women to help work
one-on-one with school age girls (6-16). You will form mutually rewarding,
supporting, and caring relationships and thus help girls realize their worth
and potential. Contact Pat Bohlen at 344-0721

5. The Girl Scouts are looking for people to help them create a 7 minute
video montage of Girl Scouts and volunteers for community relations events and
2 minute Girl Scouts commercials. If interested contact Heidi Lynn Harrell at
328-5112

6. Provena is looking for volunteers to help with the 24-hour hotline that
assists callers with crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and community
information. Contact Dennis Cockrum at 373-2430 for more information.

7. Back by popular demand! Allerton Park is offering an alternative spring
break opportunity! Students from all courses of study may apply to spend
their spring break at Allerton Park and earn service/volunteer hours working
on restoration projects, gardening, and clean-up of public spaces. Room and
board will be provided for the week. Spaces are limited, so register soon!
For more information and an application, visit the Allerton website at
