Good Morning!  Welcome Back!!  Happy New Year!!!
Time to get back into the swing of things . . . why not start the semester off
right with a little volunteering???

1.  A Woman's Place is having their 40 Hour Domestic Violence Training in
February.  The Woman's Place is a Shelter for Women and Children who are
victims of Domestic Violence.  Once the training is completed,  there are many
volunteer opportunities. such as, direct service with the women and children,
facilitating groups, working directly on the hotline and many other services.
After completing the training, you will receive a certificate that is
recognized by the  (ICADV) Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

2.  One in three women and one in six men will experience sexual violence
before age 18. But you can help! Rape Crisis Services will be holding a winter
and spring training for crisis counselors and medical/legal advocates.  Winter
training starts January 28th and is every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and
Saturday for 3 weeks.  Spring training starts March 2nd and is every Tuesday
and Saturday for 7 weeks.  Volunteers from diverse backgrounds are encouraged
to apply. For more information or to set up an interview, email Nora at

3.   Teach for America will be hosting two info sessions in February.  The
first is on Tuesday Feb 3rd at 8pm in 213 Greg Hall.  The second is the next
night Wednesday Feb 4th at 8pm in 223 Greg Hall (be careful, this is a
different room).  Applications are due by February 15th.  Go to
www.teachforamerica.org for more information.


4. South Side Elementary School is hosting the South Side Fun Nite on Friday 
February 6th.  South Side is located at 712 S. Pine on the Corner of John and 
Pine.  Volunteers are needed to run fifteen games such as a cakewalk, spin the 
color wheel, and other carnival type games.  This event takes place on Friday 
February 6th from 6pm to 9pm.  If you are interested, contact Nancy Lore at 
352-5151 for more information or to volunteer.


5.  The YMCA is hosting a Bunk-In for children between 1st and 5th grade.
This program allows parents to have a night out and to give the children
something fun to do on these special nights.  Volunteers are needed to help
set up and take down as well as help run the event, which takes place on
Friday February 13th at 6pm.  For more information contact Andi Hake at

6.  Urbana Park District will be hosting a Mom 'n Son Night of Fun (Feb 6th)
and a Daddy Daughter Date Night (Feb 7th).  Volunteers will be needed for each
event to help with checking in guests, stuffing goodie bags, helping with
crafts and supplies, leading activities, and taking pictures.  Both events
take place at the Park Inn (2408 N. Cunningham in Urbana).  If you are
interested in working either event or even both, contact Ellen at 367-1536 or
