1.  OVP Make a Difference Drive

OVP's 2006 Make a Difference Drive starts on October 9th!  This drive collects everyday items that human service agencies in Champaign County, such as Crisis Nursery and the TIMES Center, need such as toiletries and kid-friendly foods!  If your RSO or you yourself would like to participate in this easy philanthropic activity please e-mail us at ovp at uiuc.edu <mailto:ovp at uiuc.edu> !  

 

2.  Sounds of Solidarity Benefit Concert!

Interested in a night of great music and food in support of a great cause?! Come rock out at the Red Herring in Urbana while helping communities in Ecuador and the Dominican Republic!  Come talk with others interested in international service, develop new ideas for service trips and/or find ongoing projects! Friday Oct. 13, 8pm, Red Herring.  $5 covers admission and food, bring three friends and pay only $4 each! 

 

3.  Intercambio Cultural Maya

Interested in a service-learning project in Mexico?  The Intercambio Cultural Maya is a service-learning experience that takes place at Ramonal Quintana Roo, Mexico in the Yucatan region!  The trip takes place between December 27, 2006 and January 6, 2007.  Financial aid is available!! 4.  Big Brothers Big Sisters Toy Drive

The UIUC Big Brothers and Big Sisters Organization needs your help!  Please donate any new or used:  sports equipment (footballs, basketball, jump ropes, etc.), board games and arts and crafts supplies (markers, chalk, crayons, etc.).  Donation drop boxes are now located in the Union RSO complex (Cubicle # 44) and will be in the Southwest Union doorway from Nov. 6th-9th.

 

 

5.  Girl Scouts Green Meadows Council General Volunteering

The Girl Scouts Green Meadows Council has a great need for volunteers.  No matter what you career area is, your gender (we can utilize females and males), your age, or your time limits they'll have an opportunity for you. 6.  Catholic Charities Katrina Aid Today

Interested in continuing to help New Orleans recover from Katrina?  Catholic Charities can help you set up cheap housing and find you great volunteer projects down there including working at foodbanks, gutting houses, legal aid, and rebuilding! 7.  Educational Surrogate Parents

The School Association for Special Education in Du Page County is looking for educational surrogate parents to assist children with disabilities whose parents are unavailable to act on their educational behalf, live in residential facilities or are under the guardianship of the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) or the Department of Corrections (DOC).  Surrogate Parents advocate for and protect the educational rights of students with disabilities, and ensure that the school provides the student with a free, appropriate public education. 8.  Urbana Lions Candy Day

Help out the Urbana Lions Club with their annual fundraiser in October.  Volunteers are needed to "shake the can" in the community on Saturday, Oct. 7th, Friday, Oct. 13th and Saturday, Oct 14th. 9.  Village of Savoy Orchard Days Festival 

Help out at the Village of Savoy's Orchard Days Festival!  It is a 2-day event being held on October 21st and 22nd.  They kick-off the event with a pancake breakfast to be followed by a 5K run/walk, parade, vendor fair, carnival, teddy bears' picnic, live music, seniors' dance, bingo, pie eating contest and bake-off, antique car show and more!  Contact kleese at soltec.net <mailto:kleese at soltec.net>  or Kim Leese at 359-5894 x 23.  There are lots of volunteer opportunities available fro 7am-10pm on Saturday and 11am-3pm on Sunday!

 

10.  Health and Graduate School Fair

Volunteer and get a FREE T-shirt!!  On October 18th and 19th, The Career Center will be hosting a "Health and Graduate School Fair" in the Illini Union Rooms A, B, C from 11am to 3pm.  Volunteers are needed to work various time slots from 9am until 4pm on both days.  Interested students should send their name, e-mail address, and time available to work to Michael Wiggers at wiggers at uiuc.edu <mailto:wiggers at uiuc.edu> .  Time slots are scheduled for each hour from 9am to 4pm.  For every hour a volunteer works he or she will get a raffle ticket to win $100, $50, or $25 at the Illini Union Bookstore!!!
