1.  OVP Make a Difference Drive

OVP's 2006 Make a Difference Drive has started!  This drive collects everyday items that human service agencies in Champaign County, such as Crisis Nursery and the TIMES Center, need such as toiletries, kid-friendly foods, construction paper, deodorant, and toothbrushes!  If your RSO or you yourself would like to participate in this easy philanthropic activity please e-mail us at ovp at uiuc.edu <mailto:ovp at uiuc.edu> ! 2.  Sounds of Solidarity Benefit Concert!

Dinner & Benefit Show @ the Red Herring, Friday, October 13 from 8:00 PM-2:00AM
Help International Impact support communities in Ecuador and the Dominican Republic, Come talk with others interested in international service and come spread a little bit of that luck for those who don't have things like plumbing, medical supplies, or a school for their children. Make an International Impact!  Come out to the Red Herring @ 1209 W. Oregon (Oregon & Mathews on the South-East corner of the quad) for:  The quirky acoustic stylings of Sunnyside and KoitusKru, the boot-stomping ukulele-rocking sounds of the Duke of Uke and his Novelty Orchestra, and the funky alchemy of the Greg Spero Trio and great food provided by the Red Herring Vegetarian Restaurant.

3.  Leaf Raking!

On Saturday, October 28th from 8 AM-12 noon, United Way, Champaign Unit 4 School and the City of Champaign will partner to help 5th and 6th grade students make a difference in our community.  These students will spend the morning raking leaves for senior citizens in our community, and we need you to partner with us as chaperone!  You will be matched with two other adult leaders and a group of five kids on a walking route in one of Champaign's neighborhoods. 4.  ILLINI MENTOR PROGRAM FOOTBALL FUNDRAISER

The Illini Mentor Program is looking for volunteers to help work at our remaining three home football games on Oct. 14, Nov. 4 and Nov. 11. Volunteers are paid $6.50 per hour per person and will work around six hours for a game. All money directly benefits programs that are developed through IMP and brought to our local partnerships (the Don Moyer's Boys and Girls Club and Stratton Elementary School). Work duties include usher positions and gateworkers. Workers must arrive at the game three hours prior to kick-off so staff can make sure you know your duties. 5.  Allerton Park Make a Difference Workday!!

Interested in a great one-time volunteer activity to do with a group at a beautiful location?  Volunteer at Allerton Park for Make a Difference Workday!  Various activities including but not limited to facilities, natural areas, and grounds maintenance. Workday will move indoors for inclement weather. Call 244-1035 or kpetzing at uiuc.edu <mailto:kpetzing at uiuc.edu>  to register and to find out what this months activity will be!  The workday is scheduled for Oct 15, 2005 (10am-Noon).  

            

6.  Catholic Charities Katrina Aid Today

Interested in continuing to help New Orleans recover from Katrina?  Catholic Charities can help you set up cheap housing and find you great volunteer projects down there including working at foodbanks, gutting houses, legal aid, and rebuilding! 7.  Big Brothers Big Sisters Toy Drive

The UIUC Big Brothers and Big Sisters Organization needs your help!  Please donate any new or used:  sports equipment (footballs, basketball, jump ropes, etc.), board games and arts and crafts supplies (markers, chalk, crayons, etc.).  Donation drop boxes are now located in the Union RSO complex (Cubicle # 44) and will be in the Southwest Union doorway from Nov. 6th-9th.

 

8.  New Life Volunteering Society

Want to make a difference in someone's life? Join NLVS!! Serve those in need through health care, community service, and education. The primary attention for this new RSO is on four groups of people: the hungry, homeless, mentally and physically disabled, and underprivileged children. They also have amazing opportunities for leadership and executive board positions. 1st GENERAL BODY MEETING: Wednesday, OCT. 11, 7 pm 161 NOYES

 

9.  Heifer Ranch

Looking for a hands on way to experience sustainable solutions to hunger and poverty? There's no better way than to immerse yourself in the daily practices of one of Heifer's three interactive Learning Centers. Ceres Center in California, Heifer Ranch in Arkansas and Overlook Farm in Massachusetts are hands-on campuses for learning about world hunger and poverty and Heifer's sustainable solutions toward ending those.  Learning Center volunteering offers a hands-on opportunity to see theory put in to practice and connects participants with a community that is actively working to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth! 10.  Card Game Instructor

The senior citizen residents of Bickford Cottage would love to have a card game instructor to teach them card games (any kind) on Fridays at 6:30 p.m.  If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Linda Uebele at 217-403-1900.  Dinner is provided for volunteers!
