1.  OVP Holiday Toy Drive

If you want to feel jolly and enjoy your holly-day season this year, and collect presents for local children in the community!  Bring in new toys worth about $15 each to room 277 Union and ensure your spot on the "Nice" list this year.  Donations will be collected from November 13 - December 6.  

 

2.  Habitat for Humanity Homeworks Store!

Let the moving begin! Beginning November 1, Habitat will need volunteers to help finish our new store and offices. Work will include sealing the floors, painting everything, moving the administrative offices, setting up the retail areas, moving the store offices and getting ready for our Grand Opening on December 1st!  Volunteers are needed everyday, EXCEPT Sundays and between November 22nd and 26th for Thanksgiving!  Each day is broken up into three shifts:  9a - 12p, 1 - 4p, 6 - 9p.  Groups and individuals are invited to help!  For more information or to sign up for a shift, contact Courtney (volunteer at cuhabitat.org or 355-6460 x16). 

 

3.  East St. Louis Action Research Project

Another awesome volunteer/FREE trip/good-time-off-campus opportunity is quickly approaching!  Did you miss out on going on our first trip to East St. Louis?  Join in other U of I students in East St. Louis for some hands-on community service, building projects and neighborhood revitalization opportunities. All transportation, food, and hotels (we stay in Fairview Heights) are provided.  The trip begins Friday, November 10th, leaving the U of I at 7:00am and returns on the evening of Saturday, November 11th.  So sign up today at www.eslarp.uiuc.edu/volunteer . 4.  Teach for America:  Information Session

Teach For America's mission is to enlist our nation's most promising future leaders in the movement to eliminate educational inequality.  TFA accomplishes this by building a highly selective national corps of outstanding recent college graduates-of all academic majors and career interests-who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools in our nation's lowest-income communities and become lifelong leaders for expanding educational opportunity. The second application deadline is November 5th, 2006 and the UIUC on campus contact is Therese Rogers, terogers at uiuc.edu  

 

5.  Shadow Day Volunteers

The Student Leadership Panel at the University YWCA is seeking volunteers to participate in a Shadow Day experience for local high school students on November 10th. Participants will be paired with a student whom they can take around campus for a few hours. Lunch will be provided! Email ywcauofi at hotmail.com for more information!

            

6.  Children's Program Volunteer (Weekly)

The Center for Women in Transition has a regular opportunity available to help out with the Children's Program. Volunteers are needed to play games, create arts and crafts, sing and dance, and explore the world of imagination with the children living at the Center for Women in Transition. Tuesday 9:00a-11:00a; 6:15p-8:00p Thursday 10:15a-12:15p; 6:15p-8:00p.  Reliability and Consistency is key! This opportunity is a great way to build healthy and meaningful relationships with children of all ages. The age range of children living The Center for Women in Transition spans from new born to 13 years old for males and up to 18 years old for females. 7.  Internet Computer Assistants

Help both children and adults with their computer skills!  This is a great on-going event with flexible hours during the entire week!  The Champaign Public Library needs assistants to help their customers at the public Internet computers in both the Children's Department and the Adult Services Department. Duties include handling sign-ups, basic troubleshooting, and creating free email accounts.  Contact Chiawen Liu at cliu at champaign.org or (217) 403-2076 for more information!

 

8.  Bounce House Fun

10 volunteers are needed to assist Pre-K children in and out of Bounce House that will be set up in gym. There will be a morning session and an afternoon session. 4or 5 volunteer needed per session.  Volunteers are needed Nov 15, 2006 (9-11:30 AM) and Nov 15, 2006 (1-3:30 PM).  Contact Maggie Rodriguez-Nieto at (217) 351-3711.

 

 

9.  Playroom Cleaning and Organization

Looking for an easy one-time event volunteer activity for your group??  The Center for Women in Transition needs help in creating a safe and clean environment for the children they serve to play in!  Volunteers will clean and organize playrooms. Tasks to be completed include throwing away toys that are obsolete or broken, organizing toys in a systematic way, and cleaning/sanitizing toys. 10.  Big Brothers Big Sisters Toy Drive

The UIUC Big Brothers and Big Sisters Organization needs your help!  Please donate any new or used:  sports equipment (footballs, basketball, jumpropes), boardgames, and arts and crafts supplies (Markers, chalk, crayons).  Donation drop boxes are now located in the Union RSO complex (Cubicle # 44) and will be in the Southwest Union doorway from Nov. 6th-9th.
