1. OVP Make a Difference Drive

This is the last week for OVP's 2006 Make a Difference Drive! This drive collects everyday items that human service agencies in Champaign County, such as Crisis Nursery and the TIMES Center, need such as toiletries, kid-friendly foods, construction paper, deodorant, and toothbrushes! Drop off all donations at the Office of Volunteer Programs at 277 Illini Union in the RSO Complex. Visit http://www.union.uiuc.edu/ovp/ <http://www.union.uiuc.edu/ovp/> for more information!

2. Adopt the Pavilion Foundation School!!

Interested in giving local school children something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving?? For the past several years an organization has solicited and collected food for Thanksgiving baskets which the Pavilion Foundation School has delivered to some very needy families. However, that organization is not able to provide this service to the Pavilion Foundation School. This would be a great and easy philanthropic project for any RSO to take up and your help would be much appreciated in organizing a food drive for some of Pavilion's needy students!!! Contact Sally Corby at the Pavilion Foundation School at Sally.Corby at uhsinc.com <mailto:Sally.Corby at uhsinc.com> !

3. Celebrate the Sangamon River Clean-up

Interested in helping nature look its best? Walk the banks of the River with friends to help remove old tires, cans, and other debris to make the Sangamon a healthier, more beautiful river. Please bring your own water and gloves if you have them. Buckets, trash bags, coffee and snacks will be provided. Cleanup ends at noon or before if all the trash is gone! The clean-up takes place October 28th; registration begins at 8:30 a.m.. Please wear old clothes and footwear that can get muddy. There's a job for everyone! For more information, contact the City of Monticello at 217-762-2583.

4. Youth Empowerment Program of Champaign County Urban League

Interested in making a difference in an individual's life? The Youth Empowerment Program of the Champaign County Urban League is looking individuals to mentor/volunteer time for high school drop outs between the ages of 18-21. Our program assists them with obtaining their GED, Career placement and obtaining valuable life skills. These individuals need someone to assist them in accomplishing their educational, personal and career related goals. The minimum requirement for individuals who are mentors/volunteers is to make contact with your mentee twice a month. Once again this is a great opportunity to give back, it also looks well on any resume too. For more information email jwilliams at urbanleague.net.
