1.  National Volunteer Week - Get Involved and Nominate for Awards!

Want to get involved in a service project? BE A PART OF NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK!  April 15th - 21st  You can find the National Volunteer Registration form on OVP's website at www.union.uiuc.edu/ovp <http://www.union.uiuc.edu/ovp> .  Fill out the registration form and email to ovp at uiuc.edu <mailto:ovp at uiuc.edu>  or drop off at 277 Illini Union by Monday, April 6 at 5pm.  Once we have your registration form we will contact you to match you and/or your group up with a service project that fits with your interests and your availability.  

 

Also, nominate an individual or organization that has shown dedication to service for the 2007 Outstanding Service Awards, nominee winners will be awarded with a plaque commemorating their dedication to service.  Nomination forms can be found on OVP's website at www.union.uiuc.edu/ovp <http://www.union.uiuc.edu/ovp> . Forms are due on Monday April 9th by 5pm.

2.  Persuasion and Social Change

Join Professor Patrick Vargas for a one-hour workshop on the role of persuasion in efforts concerning social change.  Knowledge itself is often not enough to inspire change.  Real change require action!  Come learn about persuasion, one key to moving people from knowledge to action.  This workshop will take place on Wednesday, April 18th from 7pm-8pm in room 406 Illini Union.  No registration is required. 3.  Volunteer Motivation Study

Are you interested in sharing what motivates you to volunteer?  A doctoral student is looking for students with Junior standing, who are willing to participate in a dissertation study on motivation to volunteer individually outside of the classroom or through co-curricular organizations.  Chosen participants will receive a gift card to local establishment of choice for participating in study. 4.  UIUC Idealist.org Career Conference

Want to work for a Non-profit?  Want a career where you feel like you're making difference? The UIUC Idealist.org Career Conference will take place in Illini Union Rooms 406-407 on Monday, April 9, 2007 from 3:30 pm to 7 pm.  It will be presented by Action Without Borders, creators of Idealist.org.  Action Without Borders connects people, organizations, and resources to help build a world where all people can live free and dignified lives.  

 

This conference is designed to provide students with and insiders view to the world of non-profit careers as well as provide you with practical skills to break into the industry.  See the agenda below for conference session details.  All students of any academic background and class standing are welcomed to attend this exciting event.

5.  Feel Good for Doing Good and Get a Free Grilled Cheese!

FeelGood will be at the Quad from 11 am to 2 pm every Tuesday and Thursday of April to raise money for the Hunger Project. 6.  Volunteer Soccer Coaches Needed ASAP!
Kyle Mills from the Urbana Park District is desperately looking for some Sharkies Soccer coaches!  Share your love of soccer in this time of need!!  Contact kamills at UrbanaParks.Org <mailto:kamills at UrbanaParks.Org>  as soon as possible!

 

7.  MILES 4 MEDICINE 5K Run/ Walk

Hosted by NEW LIFE VOLUNTEERING SOCIETY (NLVS) & FOUNDATION FOR INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL RELIEF OF CHILDREN (FIMRC).
The Miles 4 Medicine 5K Run/Walk starts at 9:00am on April 29, 2007 at Crystal Lake Park in Champaign, IL; but buses will leave from KAM's starting at 7:30am.   Sign up on the Quad from 11am-2pm on April 4, 5, 12, 13, 25 & 26  The cost is $10 pre-registration and $15 on race day.  Make a difference by help raising money for under-resourced children around the world.  100% of the profits will go towards medical clinics, orphanages, and schools. 8.  ICTM State Finals Volunteers

The Math Department is looking for volunteers for the ICTM State Finals high school math contest on Saturday, April 28, 2007.  Over 2000 students from over 200 schools participate in the contest, and
we need many volunteers to make the day run smoothly.  They need people in every category, but especially proctors, data entry, graders, timers and assistants for the Oral competition, director's assistants, runners, and folks to help move boxes on the day of the contest. 9.  Positive Role Models Needed

Become a part of the Junior Achievement Team!  Positive role models are needed to bring Junior Achievement programs to the students of East Central Illinois.  Volunteer Consultants teach business and economics in the classroom during the school day.  All supplies are provided by Junior Achievement.  Contact 217-428-2151 for more information!!!

 

10.  Sweetcorn Festival

Will you be here early next year?  Volunteer at the Sweetcorn Festival!  Volunteers are needed throughout the festival, including selling beer, selling pepsi, selling corn, selling merchandise, cooking corn, picking up garbage, answering phones in the office, and miscellaneous tasks as assigned. Shifts are typically three hours long.  Volunteers are needed on 8/24/2007 - 5-11pm and 8/25/2007 - 11am-11pm.
