1.  National Volunteer Week - Get Involved and Nominate for Awards!

Want to get involved in a service project? BE A PART OF NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK!  April 15th - 21st.  You can find the National Volunteer Registration form on OVP's website at www.union.uiuc.edu/ovp <http://www.union.uiuc.edu/ovp> .  Fill out the registration form and email to ovp at uiuc.edu <mailto:ovp at uiuc.edu>  or drop off at 277 Illini Union by Monday, April 6 at 5pm.  Once we have your registration form we will contact you to match you and/or your group up with a service project that fits with your interests and your availability.  

Also, nominate an individual or organization that has shown dedication to service for the 2007 Outstanding Service Awards, nominee winners will be awarded with a plaque commemorating their dedication to service.  Nomination forms can be found on OVP's website at www.union.uiuc.edu/ovp <http://www.union.uiuc.edu/ovp> . Forms are due on Monday April 9th by 5pm.

2.  Persuasion and Social Change

Join Professor Patrick Vargas for a one-hour workshop on the role of persuasion in efforts concerning social change.  He will be leading those who attend in a series of group and individual exercises through which you can learn about techniques commonly used by advertising and marketing specialists and learn to adapt these techniques for promoting the social change and social good.  Knowledge itself is often not enough to inspire change.  Real change requires action!  Come learn about persuasion, one key to moving people from knowledge to action.  This workshop will take place on Wednesday, April 18th from 7pm-8pm in room 406 Illini Union.  No registration is required. 3.  ICTM State Finals Volunteers

The Math Department is looking for volunteers for the ICTM State Finals high school math contest on Saturday, April 28, 2007.  Over 2000 students from over 200 schools participate in the contest, and
we need many volunteers to make the day run smoothly.  They need people in every category, but especially proctors, data entry, graders, timers and assistants for the Oral competition, director's assistants, runners, and folks to help move boxes on the day of the contest. 4.  Champaign County Forest Preserve Spring Clean-up Event!

Come help out the Champaign County Forest Preserve on Saturday, April 21st from 9-11:30am or 11am-2pm!  Come enjoy the beauty of the forest preserve while working to further beautify it! 5.  Clothing Closet Volunteer

Salt & Light is looking for volunteers who would be interested in working with our clothing closet. Responsibilities include sorting and hanging of clothing, stocking shelves and general maintenance of sorting and display areas. Time commitment is up to the volunteer with availability M-F 9 am to 5 pm. 6.  Bike Maintenance
Help the Center for Women in Transition sort through our bikes and fix the fixable so their young residents can ride safely this summer.  Contact Carie Bires-Cook carie at cwt-cu.org <mailto:carie at cwt-cu.org>  (217) 352-7151.

7.  Food Pantry Volunteer

Salt and Light is looking for volunteers who would be interested in working with their food program. Responsibilities include stocking shelves, boxing of food, and general maintenance of the food area. Time involvement is up to the volunteer with availability M-F 9 am to 5 pm.  About 10 volunteers are needed.

8.  Free Car Wash

Six volunteers are needed to help Circle of Friends wash and dry the cars of their caregivers at the back yard of agency.  This is a great onetime opportunity on 4/19/2007 from 3-5pm!  Contact Shelly Mou at shellymou at gmail.com <mailto:shellymou at gmail.com>  or (217) 359-7937!

9.  C U on the Trails

Champaign Park District needs your help!  Volunteers will assist with set up, clean up and working with athletes who participate in this 5k race!  This is a wonderful onetime opportunity that takes place on 5/23/2007 that starts at 8:00AM!  Fifteen volunteers are needed! 10.  Sweetcorn Festival

Will you be here early next year?  Volunteer at the Sweetcorn Festival!  Volunteers are needed throughout the festival, including selling beer, selling pepsi, selling corn, selling merchandise, cooking corn, picking up garbage, answering phones in the office, and miscellaneous tasks as assigned. Shifts are typically three hours long.  Volunteers are needed on 8/24/2007 - 5-11pm and 8/25/2007 - 11am-11pm.
