1.  OVP Barbara Seaquist Williams Internship

Applications for the 2007-2008 Barbara Seaquist Williams Internship at the Office of Volunteer Programs is now available!  This paid internship position provides the opportunity for students to work with the Champaign-Urbana community and its ever-changing needs.  Because of the unique partnerships the Office of Volunteer Programs has with the community, interns will experience first hand the value of those partnerships. 2.  Communicating With Children Panel

Learn how to tutor, mentor, and connect with children more effectively from local school administrators and educators!  The Office of Volunteer Programs will be hosting a panel discussion of 3 local teachers who will discuss various tips and techniques for volunteers who work with children!  The panel will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in 406 Illini Union.  

 

3.  One Page Business Plan for Not-for-Profit Organizations

Interested in turning service in to a career or business?  Attend the Academy for Entrepreneurial Leadership's presentation "One Page Business Plan for Not-for-Profit Organizations" on February 8 on 6-8pm at 240 Wohler's Hall.  This program will be presented by Peter Hackbert and Kimberly Sugden!  We hope to see all of you there!

 

4.  Towncenter Community Network

The Towncenter Community Network is starting up a new program to help provide food, clothing, tutoring, and a kids program to needy families in Champaign.  5.  Volunteers needed for Artists Against AIDS Prep 

The revenue from AAA provides GCAP with almost 1/3 of our operating budget!  GCAP is seeking groups of volunteers (15-20 people) to help us out with moving materials at the Orpheum Children's Science Museum in downtown Champaign.  They have work days scheduled for Saturday, Februay 10 and Sunday, February 11 from 12 noon to 4 pm.  Volunteers will be provided with snacks and beverages as well as our undying gratitude. 6.  Library Census Tracker

The Champaign Public Library needs your help in tracking data on their patrons!  This is a great and easy volunteer opportunity that has flexible hours!  For more information contact Chiawen Liu at cliu at champaign.org <mailto:cliu at champaign.org>  or (217) 403-2076.

 

7.  CWIT Internship!

Interested in getting more involved in a non-profit like CWIT, the Center for Women in Transition?  Apply to be the intern to the Executive Director!  The intern will serve as an assitant to our Executive Director. Tasks will include basic secretarial duties such as typing, filing, answering phone calls. Tasks may also include attending committee and coalition meetings, assisting residents, and research as you get to know the program better! 8.  CWIT Web Assistant

9.  Spring Crisis Line Volunteer Training at the Mental Health Center

The Crisis line has volunteers from various professions and life situations. Volunteers help with various situations, including assistance with information, depression, social support, and suicide prevention. Volunteers develop and further hone interviewing skills and the ability to be calm in tense situations.  Volunteers are asked to help generate ideas and options for callers but are not asked to solve the caller's problems.  The Spring training dates are February 20, 22, 27 and March 1.  The sessions will each run from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m., and you must be able to attend all four sessions in their entirety.
