1.  OVP Barbara Seaquist Williams Internship

Applications for the 2007-2008 Barbara Seaquist Williams Internship at the Office of Volunteer Programs is now available!  This paid internship position provides the opportunity for students to work with the Champaign-Urbana community and its ever-changing needs.  Because of the unique partnerships the Office of Volunteer Programs has with the community, interns will experience first hand the value of those partnerships. 2.  Volunteering Abroad Panel

Interested in international volunteer projects?  Join the Office of Volunteer Programs for its Volunteering Abroad Panel discussion where current U of I students and study abroad administrators will speak about their experiences abroad and tell you about the details in planning and implementing a successful trip!  This program will take place on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 in 406 Illini Union at 7pm!

 

3.  High School Math Contest!

Looking to plan ahead for an RSO service project?  The Mathematics Department is seeking volunteers for the ICTM (Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics) High School Math Contest to be held on the UIUC campus on Saturday, April 28, 2007.  Over 2500 high school students from around the state will be here that day, and we need more than 200 volunteers to proctor, grade, enter data, usher, time oral competitions and many other jobs!  For most of the jobs, you don't need any special qualifications. 4.  YMCA Website Help!

The University YMCA is looking for an individual who will help set-up and maintain a link from their website for a fundraising campaign they are running. This would require 5-10 hours a week (possibly less) and would involve creating an online schedule for the Campaign, posting meeting minutes and agendas for Campaign committees, providing up-to-date Campaign publicity information, and adding other Campaign-related information as needed. 5.  The Educational Surrogate Parent Training Program 

The Educational Surrogate Parent Training Program is seeking individuals to attend a one-day training to become an Educational Surrogate Parent to disabled children who are living in DCFS facilities and have special educational needs.  Volunteers who successfully pass a short test following a 6-hour training, and pass a required Criminal Background check can be assigned students to advocate for in the school setting.  Volunteers are compensated for their time and travel expenses for each student they serve.  Contact Nancy Ewert, Coordinator at (630) 889-7393 for more information!

 

6.  Social Entrepreneurship and Free Money!

The Academy of Entrepreneurial Leadership and The IdeaBounce Competition gives you the chance to win $250!  So turn your great ideas into cash! Judges will then select the best 15 finalists, who move on to the Competition Finals on Monday, February 26th. 7.  CWIT Children's Program 

The Center for Women in Transition is a long-term transitional housing program for homeless women and their children.  Children's Program provides childcare for their residents during five weekly playgroups and three after school hangout times.  The groups are fun and educational and provide a great chance to gain experience for anyone interested in education, child development, and non-profit human service agencies.

If you have a few hours a week to volunteer and love working with children, please attend their Children's Program Orientation on Thursday February 15, 2007 from 5-6 PM.  For more information please contact Michael Parrish at 217-352-7151 or email volunteer at cwt-cu.org.

 

8.  Teach for America Final Application Deadline Approaching!!

Teach For America's mission is to enlist our nation's most promising future leaders in the movement to eliminate educational inequality. 9.  Volunteer Host Families Needed!

Cathy Newbury, the Regional Advisor, with ISE, a non profit organization that works with high school exchange students, is currently looking for volunteer host families in the area for the upcoming school year. Hosting is not expensive, they just ask that you give them a bed to sleep in, provide them with food and treat them like one of your own children.  Students have medical insurance and spending money and attend a local public high school.
