1.  OVP Barbara Seaquist Williams Internship

Applications for the 2007-2008 Barbara Seaquist Williams Internship at the Office of Volunteer Programs is now available!  This paid internship position provides the opportunity for students to work with the Champaign-Urbana community and its ever-changing needs.  Because of the unique partnerships the Office of Volunteer Programs has with the community, interns will experience first hand the value of those partnerships. 2.  University YMCA Student Activist Conference

To be held at the beginning of March, this event hopes to bring together all of the activist groups on campus, whatever their agendas, for a day of workshops, panels, and speakers that will address issues important to all students working to make a difference here on campus and beyond .  The conference will be held on Saturday, March 3rd from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm and is free, including meals, for all UIUC students.  Experienced and accomplished activist Cindy Sheehan as their keynote speaker.  She will give her talk, entitled "One Person Can Make a Difference" at 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 1st, and will also meet informally with students prior to her talk.  Cindy Sheehan tells her powerful and provocative story of her work as an anti-war activist that began upon the death of her son, Casey, who was killed on April 4, 2004 on a mission in Iraq.   The University YMCA's Student Activist Conference hopes to serve as a point of inspiration, activist education, and coalition building, and we need your help to make it so! 3.  Volunteering Abroad Panel

Interested in international volunteer projects?  Join the Office of Volunteer Programs for its Volunteering Abroad Panel discussion where current U of I students and study abroad administrators will speak about their experiences abroad and tell you about the details in planning and implementing a successful trip!  This program will take place on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 in 406 Illini Union at 7pm!

 

4.  Care Packages for New Mothers!

The Champaign Public Library needs your help!  A big project will take a lot of volunteers to complete at the Champaign Public Library.  On February 20-22, they will stuff baby packets that are given to mothers of all newborns in C-U at Provena and Carle hospitals.  These packets consist of a booklet, a CD and a board book, plus some inserts. We will set up table in the blue carpet area at the library and volunteers can come in anytime between 9 and 4 on these three days.  Volunteers are welcome to work for a little as an hour or for the whole day. 5.  High School Math Contest!

Looking to plan ahead for an RSO service project?  The Mathematics Department is seeking volunteers for the ICTM (Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics) High School Math Contest to be held on the UIUC campus on Saturday, April 28, 2007.  Over 2500 high school students from around the state will be here that day, and we need more than 200 volunteers to proctor, grade, enter data, usher, time oral competitions and many other jobs!  For most of the jobs, you don't need any special qualifications. 6.  Chicago Couture Fashion Week

Chicago Couture Fashion Week Inc, is seeking students and volunteers for its 1st Annual Fashion showcase series.  Students must submit their curriculum studies and their school department policies and guidelines to earning credit.  Their volunteer work will match the program s in which their studies require internships.  The following departments are accepting applicants in: Make up Artists, dressers, photography, and more. 7.  Volunteering Opportunity with Prospective Students of Medicine

Looking for a good volunteering opportunity?  Prospective Students of Medicine has one available for you.   The Swann Center is a living center for the severely mentally disabled, mostly children.  Every Sunday from 1:00-4:00 p.m.,  there are available spots for those who wish to spend some time helping out the staff there and volunteering with us. 8.  Read Across America

A great one-time volunteer opportunity:  Play with kids doing educational crafts or helping to set up booths, maybe hand out stickers, fun random easy stuff! Volunteers are needed in 2 hour shifts from 9 am - 3 pm. Please email Emma O'Brien at helpRAA at gmail.com to participate in this year's 7th Annual Read Across America! (Located in Lincoln Square Mall)

 

9.  Food Pantry Volunteer for Salt and Light

Salt and Light is looking for volunteers who would be interested in working with their food program. Responsibilities include stocking shelves, boxing of food, and general maintenance of food area. Time involvement is up to the volunteer with availability M-F from 9 am to 5 pm. 10. Clothing Closet Volunteers 

Salt & Light is looking for volunteers who would be interested in working with our clothing closet. Responsibilities would include sorting and hanging of clothing, stocking of shelves and general maintenance of sorting and display areas. Time commitment is determined by the volunteer with availability M-F from 9am to 5pm.
