[CUWiN-Dev] WRT54G vs. Linksys WGT634U:

This is something I was thinking about. Commodity consumer grade
hardware is fun as a test bed for new ideas and deployments, but the
longevity is not assured. I've been talking to product management at
Linksys about this sort of thing a fair bit lately for some other
work I'm doing.

Also in speaking to the people who designed the Netgear box (a
different company, I might add) they have assured me that the mPCI
route was taken because of a temporary shortage in the newest BCM
processor (which has USB controllers on it). This box will be
replaced in about 6 months with the latest BCM chipset and will still
run Linux. I have a WGT and it's working fine. A great little server
with linux, etc.

I think that this group's time, money and energy would be better
spent getting things solid in the core distribution for x86
processors (Soekris, WRAP, PC, etc) and then later on go down the low-
cost route when we have proven technology and can get actual vendor
buy-in and resale agreements with someone. I think proving the
technology in the field at V1 is more important to the sustainability
of this project than porting to everything in existence that could
run it.
