Hey all,

sorry i havent been very involved lately. i just had to catch up on some
other things for a while, such as personal sanity etc.

i too would like us to have a vision discussion about the site. i think we
did a great job and it is serving a very valuable service, even now when
there isnt a major event to push. i, for one, didnt see the site as a tool
for major events alone, but something that will draw more traffic to local
imc stories and ignored stories in general on an every day basis. and it is
doing just that. i, for one, go to many more local imc sites now through
this portal than i used to.

but there are still things to work out. we were in the midst of a debate
recently about what stories we can and cannot link to, and until that is
resolved im not really sure how i can participate outside of occasionally
promoting an article. i would like us to occasionally produce features with
multiple links to various imc's and non-imc's alike, features that capture a
wide breadth of articles beyond a local feature. as i argued at the AMC,
stories that cross states and issues in a way that connects the dots.

as for site width issues, i could work on banners again when my computer
comes back from the shop, but when my last computer was stolen, i lost the
background orignal file, so im not sure how much i can expand the banner
without losing resolution.

also, i know there are folks who have argued that we should keep the site
this width becuase it is friendlier to folks with small screens. they dont
have to scroll across to read the site. one solution was to just center the
site so that there is a white border on both sides, not just the right side.
would that improve it for you enough, bht?

i think it would be great if we could have an irc meeting soon. i will be at
a family reunion from wedensday to wednesday but could do it before that or
in 2005. thoughts?

peace
ana
