IMC Newsgroup minutes 7/8/01
Attending:  Nancy, Russ, Mark, Paul K., Avram, Molly, Danielle, Sehvilla

This weeks' IMC newshour:

Danielle is producing;  focus is on the Tree-sitting story in
Bloomington,IN.  Listen to tomorrow's newshour for more details.  Mark,
Peter, & Molly were working on some headlines, but Danielle still needs
some local headlines.  Steve Hicks emailed a headline to the news list.
Danielle will ask Omar for headlines;  possibility of Omar doing this
every week, or having him & one other person to do the headlines every
week, to help break down the task?  Danielle will ask Omar if he could do
this.  
Another suggestion was for the producer of the next week's show to prompt
for headlines on the list around Wed., have them due by the Sunday
newsgroup meeting , and have each author of the headlines tape their
respective headline for the show after the newsgroup meeting.  
Paul's concern was that the headlines might not be as fresh if they're
taped on Sunday;  suggestion that there could be time on monday for a
live headline if some late-breaking news occured.  

Next week's newshour:
Nancy will be doing a focus on Palestinian/Israeli conflict.  Will also
need headlines.  

Life in the Bike Lane
Paul & Jay are working on a segment.  nancy is also working on a piece
for this.  Avram is helping Pauline out with producing the show.

Mark- Steering group meeting
Mark reported on minidisks for sale.  Also 2 possible stories:  School of
Americas and Permanent Autonomous Zone (see Steering group minutes for
details).
Danielle volunteered to be the newsgroup speaker at the General
Membership Meeting/ Round-Up and Hoe-down.

Newshour
The group decided to go ahead & propose to do the IMC newshour on WEFT
through Sept. 10th.  Danielle will write & send the proposal to Kim
Krannich, WEFT.  Following are the proposed producers & topics:
7/23:  Pauline;  Latino migrant workers
7/30:  Ben;  GENOA
	Sascha-IMC in Latin America
8/6:  Danielle 
8/13:  Avram:  Urban Gardening
8/20:  Peter:  Colombia
8/27:  Mark:  Gesundheit
9/3:  Paul K.;  Labor Day special
9/10:  Sehvilla;  Factory farms

Danielle will continue to serve as the liaison between the IMC newsgroup
and WEFT.

Free Speech Radio News (FSRN)
Should Molly address lack of compensation from FSRN from the last IMC
piece that was done?  Group decided that this would be appropriate;  but
not to withhold new stories from them while we're waiting for
compensation.  Most people thought that eventually we'd get the $, but
that right now they're pretty new, and probably not that organized.

Airshifters from WEFT might be interested in being the airshifter for the
IMC newshour.  Producers could send out requests to the WEFTa list for
anyone interested in airshifting the newshour.
