fund for investigative journalism will give grants from 500 to 10,000 to
reporters working outside the protection and backing of major news orgs.
pieces involving corruption, malfeasance, incompetence and societal ills in
general as well as for media criticism.

the applicant must write a letter outlining the story, what he expects to
prove, how this will be done, and the sources for the proof.  resume,
budget, wiring samples and a letter of commitment from an editor or
publisher to consider publishing or broadcasting the final product.

deadline is the first of the preceding month (board meets march, july,
november).
