August 11, 2002 Steering Group Meeting Minutes:

Present:  the small cadre of Mike L. (facilitating), & Mike W., Russ R.,
Sascha M. (notes), Mark E.

GROUP REPORTS:

Finance:  still running a deficit -- we'll probably have to dip into the
endowment within the next month or two unless something changes.  We do
have a paypal account -- it's not being used.  Russ is handling local
stuff, send questions to finance at ucimc.org.  Russ will write a story for
the newswire.  Paul R. has sent out letters to founding funders.  Sent
$500 to IMC Uruguay as per IMC-Latina instructions.  Funding sen

Tech:  NO SPOKE!!!

Radio:  Regular spoke is out of town.  People are helping out on the
periphery and the group is in the midst of forming the "Fall Production
Team" -- contact imc-newsroom at ucimc.org for more information.

Shows:  NO SPOKE!!!

Librarians:  NO SPOKE!!!

Print:  Paper printed -- 8 pages; 4000 copies.  Sascha is waiting for an
invoice.  Guest editor will be Ricky B. for September (Belden F. in
October).  In the paper the meeting times are incorrect & "groups" (not
"committees") is the proper name for working groups.

Space:  Mike L. fixed the front lights, added string lights to the front
window (they are on a timer), fixed the toilet, and put up coat hooks (for
the winter) outside the production room.  Small electical snafu in the
production room (Mike L. will look at it momentarily).  Middle room lights
are not working well -- maybe something could be worked out with dancers
or art folks.  Help keep the space tidy -- spend 3-5 minutes cleaning next
time you're at the IMC.

OLD BUSINESS:

WEBSITE USE:  new methods are being employed effectively to block spamming
to the website.  Clint P. is back in town and we hope to have DaDa up and
running fairly shortly.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN: Sascha M. is putting together a committee.  Main IMC
kick-off event will be in October.  Paul R. will head letter-writing.  At
General Membership Meeting more parameters will be set.  The IMC is
looking for volunteers to help with fundraising -- PLEASE VOLUNTEER.

GRRRLFEST:  September 6-8th

PRINCIPLES OF UNITY:  Hearing no objections from missing spokes over the
week, is now officially fully adopted.

NEW BUSINESS:  Art Attack -- would have to be a mixed use space (meetings,
dance, video screenings, etc.).  If space was kept neat there would be
more space.  Intersecting uses would have to be kept paramount & space
would have to be purposefully shared.  We could build a wall (or partial
wall) to section off office from art space.  Art Attack folks would have
to be trained as IMC staffers. Concerns:  dance space; dislocating storage
area; staff training;  lighting; finances & acounting; space to get to the
back room; shows & meetings & yoga usage; signage & advertizing (print
team collaboration); one-person shows.  50/50 profit sharing proposed.
Working group possibility -- fiscal sponsorship of project proposed.
Safety of artwork when we have shows -- IMC does not accept liability for
artwork.  Steering group consensus that Sascha M. should pursue the idea
if Art Attack is interested.
