Brian is right about the public space aspect of the IMC. He's also right
about it probably remaining that way. Since it is a commercial type
door, it can't be fixed by a run to buy something cheap at Meanards. It
would be very expensive to replace the lock (>$100). Which we would be
glad to pay, except that, if all goes as planned, the front of the
building is rehabbed this summer, giving us a new, totally accessible
and lockable front entrance.

There has been some discussion that, with the new back room probably
having a sepearate entrance (which will be needed during construction
anyway), we might reconsider this in light of the fact that we would
have to have a staffer upfront during shows, in addition to whoever
staffs the shows themselves, if the door doesn't lock from the inside.
So maybe we ought to reconsider this by adding it to the agenda for
Sunday.

I do understand the concerns about security issues, but I think the best
thing to do, if you have concerns, is to bring someone along as Brian
suggested. This is also a reason why afterhours work is problematic, as
the space really requires a staffer to ensure that things don't keep
disappearing, etc, in addition to whoever is using the production room.
That is the reality of having such a large space.

One thing that might also be doable is to put some sort of door chime or
beeper on it so that it will announce people's entrances. Although that
might be obnoxious for its own reasons.
