I am not in favor of what the U.S. has been doing in Ukraine, by any
stretch of the imagination. If people want to organize against that, I'm
totally for it. But it's irresponsible scaremongering to say that there's a
danger that the U.S. is going to war with Russia over Ukraine, when
there is no such danger, unless by "war" one means what the U.S. is already
doing, in which case it's not a danger, it's what's already the case.
Activist resources are finite, I'm sorry to say. This scaremongering about
the danger of war with Russia is a distraction. We have a real
possibility of ending unconstitutional U.S. participation in the Saudi
war-blockade-famine-genocide in Yemen with floor votes in Congress in the
next two months. Durbin and Duckworth could help a great deal with that;
they have been in the more progressive half of Senate Democrats on this
issue; on the last vote the Senate, they were better than Chris Murphy, who
was historically a champion on the issue. Why not focus on what we have a
chance to change? There is no danger of war with Russia, and there is
little prospect of significant improvement in relations with Russia over
and above whatever is necessary to avoid war, which the U.S. will do no
matter what we say, because the people running the U.S. are not totally
insane. Let's focus on what we can do something about in order to save the
most lives.
