1. The Free Fall Convention is in need of volunteers to work at their
convention from August 1-10. They are looking for people interested in working
in the following areas: Registration, Registration Greeters, Volunteer
Greeters, VIP Greeters, Data Filing, Maintenance, Grounds, Safety, Shuttle,
Translators and possibly EMT's. Volunteer opportunities prior to this event
are also available. We are looking for people to help erect our "Tent City".
They begin setting up for this the last week of July, from July 28th on. They
also offer incentives for the hours a person works. Volunteers may also pick
the hours they are available to work. For more information contact Michelle
Clayton at Maprvi1 at aol.com or home phone: 893-9144 or Free Fall office in
Rantoul: 892-9100. You may also view our website at www.freefall.com . An
application for volunteering is on this website. There will be a volunteer
meeting at the Rantoul Airport on July 27 at 2:00. We will show the areas of
volunteer opportunities and will follow with a get acquainted picnic.
Skydivers will arrive in Rantoul from all over the world. What an awesome
opportunity to learn of cultures from all over the world. Each year, it seems
like one big family reunion. People are meeting up again, new friends as well
as old friends. This is one great place to volunteer and have the time of your
lives!
2. Be a part of Champaign-Urbana Days! Volunteers are needed to help in a
variety of areas such as set up, clean up, Pepsi stands, park beautification,
and scorekeeping. Volunteers are needed on Aug 8, 2003 (4:00pm - 10:00pm), Aug
9, 2003 (9:00am - 7:00pm), Aug 10, 2003 (9:00am - 8:00pm). For more
information contact Kristi Bolton (217) 398-2550.
3. Do you enjoy reading? One of our resident's would like to learn to read or
to at least identify letters and numbers so she can play her favorite game
without assistance. For more information contact Kalah McGraw (217) 384-3784.
4. You will be building a Team to raise funds to support people with cancer,
and help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society use the funds raised for critical
cancer research. This is an opportunity for you to help fight cancer. 1) Form
a Light The Night Team of friends, family members, neighbors, and co-workers.
You can be a team by yourself, but it is more fun with others! 2) Pick a Team
Captain. 3) Set a fundraising goal, first by sponsoring yourself, then setting
a goal for your team. 4) Register your Team online at www.lightthenight.org or
call toll-free at 1-877-LTN-WALK. You may also mail in a registration form
that is attached to a Light The Night brochure, which may be found at many
restaurants, or businesses. You will then be mailed your team packets, and any
other materials you will need, to make your Team successful. You can then
begin to ask others to help you in your efforts. Ask your boss, if the company
you work for will match dollar to dollar the amounts you raise, or help
sponsor the walk on a corporate level. The night of the Walk is Saturday,
September 13, 2003. Registration begins at 5:30pm. The walk will begin
promptly at 7:00pm. The walk event will end around 9:30 pm. If you have any
additional questions you may call Jenny Cheek, the Central Illinois Director
of Special Events at 309-451-1692, or Judy Grumish (committee member in
Champaign) at 217-352-6399.
