Hello friends and members of the Bike Project, Urbana IL

We need your help --

When: Next Friday, 30 May 2008
What: Bike Pickup and Sorting (more details below)
Where: at the Champaign Public Works lot
702 Edgebrook Dr
Champaign, IL 61820
When: 10 AM and onward (more details below)

Here is a link to a google map image that shows the location of the Champaign Public Works lot.

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/fgd/www/cpworks.JPG

It is on Edgebrook Drive, just north of Bloomington Road and east of Hagen (and east of Home Depot), in Champaign. Enter via Hagen and drive/ride/walk (carefully - there is typically some big machinery there) back to the warehouse at the rear of the lot, where the bikes are located, typically outdoors in front of the warehouse.

We are going to get a large load of bikes from the City of Champaign. We are going to sort the bikes there at the Public Works lot, into stuff we know we can sell (or fix and sell) versus stuff we don't want. The following day, Joel and I are making a run up to Chicago -- we owe twenty bicycles to Working Bikes Coop, and we are going give them a lot of the Champaign cast-aways, and as well, clear off some stuff from the ramp. This is better than scrapping the castaways, because Working Bikes takes everything and stuff they don't fix up eventually goes into containers bound for Africa or South America.

I've rented a truck we can use to run bikes back and forth to the co-op, but other truck(s) are welcome and make that part of the work go all the quicker!

I'll be there starting at 10 AM -- so we could use help starting then. If you come by later and we are not there, just wait, we'll be back (we'd be running back and forth).

The contact person organizing this on the PW side is Tom Schuh.

I sure hope you can come and help.

Fred

p.s. In the interim and starting w/ this evening's open hours, let's all pitch in and organize, sort, and re-stack the bikes in the co-op itself, making room for the batch coming in. We won't know exactly how many we are going to get from Champaign until the 30th -- i.e., how much of their stuff we will want, but Tom is talking about up to a hundred, overall.
