Small electric pumps are not very expensive. I have a Campbell-Hausfeld
pump (designed to be charged & kept in your trunk for car emergencies) which
I use in my basement to keep my tires at 100#, and my shock at 250#. Before
that I was always riding under-inflated tires and using lots of energy for
nuthin', because as you said hand pumping is wearisome. After I started
airing up weekly or more often I found that riding is a lot more enjoyable.
My pump is in my basement & all of the bikes in my building use it. The
thing cost me about $35.00 (I looked for sales) and it shows no signs of
slowing down after 5 years. A very worthwhile investment, even cheaper if a
couple of friends split one.

A small electric pump is waaaay safer than using the pumps at gas stations,
they pump too much volume too fast, and it is very easy to blow a tire off
of a rim. (voice of experience)

I'd recommend looking at places like Farm & Fleet or the auto sections of
Target/K-Mart/ Meijer/whatever. These are not in local bike shops, even
though any parent who has to pump up tires for 2 kids and a spouse should
definitely own one. And go get it in a car, mine is quite heavy for bike
transport. I have transported it on my bike but it almost weighs 15 # and is
a pain to balance.

hello i'm interested in hearing bikers views on the general state of
airing your tires, particularly in Urbana with the charging for poor quality
airing. handpumping is not realistic for 80 lb inflations.

i'm interested in the views of the biker community because i'm
interested in setting up a community bike air facility. all that is
required is a compressor in an appropriate location both of which i am able
to work out. i am interested in talking to interested parties
