Thanks to everyone who attended tonight! A few notes on our discussion
follow ...

Attendees: Colten, Tom, Jeff, Stewart, Brian, Chris, Barry, Gergana, Erich

Agenda:

- Opens
*) Makerfaire wrap-up: got close to $300 for the space, over 430
people attended the faire, gave out 70 robot pin kits @ the Makerspace booth
Added a bunch of people to mailing list (both from faire & at
middle school promo the week before)
A lot of interest from parents on doing kid-friendly stuff over the
summer
*) Makerfaire 2013: start planning after May 1st; need people from
makerspace to help drive this (e.g. can think about doing collaborations
with FabLab, First Robotics), can turn this into a money-maker for the group
Does Makerspace want to be a more prominent sponsor for next year?
*Chris to get more info* on how much money were made this year, etc. and
we'll discuss again at the May member meeting

- Membership/financial status update
*) Is everyone up to date on membership? If not, donate here:
http://ucimc.org/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=8; alternatively,
get an envelope from IMC main desk, add money & address to "MakerSpace
membership"
*) How about spending some of our extra money? To draw people, we
need to invest in some materials - e.g. oscilloscope, reprap, a bunch of
arduino kits, vinyl cutter, anything else?
         +) *oscilloscope: Jeff to research*
+) *reprap: Colten and Tom to research; Brian will check on
materials*

- Advertising
*) Need to put open hours, events on local calendars: the217.com,
News-Gazette, others?
*) Hack-a-day.com wants to do virtual tours of hackerspaces, something
we can do here?
Yes, there is interest in doing a virtual tour of the makerspace,
or a promo video; will brainstorm during Open hours this week on what we
want to include
*) Fliers, Facebook, radio: TechKnowledge (Stewart to follow-up),
Parkland, MTD bus ads

- Potential workshops: consider doing 1 workshop / month starting in May to
continue over the summer
*) Collaboration with Library science grad program: grant has been
written to do a couple of workshops per year ($1000 each); waiting to hear
back
     *) Do a series of soldering workshops (e.g. Soldering 101, 102, etc)
increasing in difficulty;
For example: start with throwies, making the robot pins, then a
MintyBoost <http://www.adafruit.com/products/14>, then
TV-b-gone<https://www.adafruit.com/products/73>
*) Sewing workshop: need to discuss this with Rose who's starting a
sewing club @ the IMC
Rose will be out of town until July but can do it afterwards
*) play-do and LEDs: *Colten to look into how much* it'll be per person
*) Arduino workshops: a lot of resources online, there seems to be in
interest in doing something with that
*) *Conclusion:* want to do another summer-make-ation; will meet
during open hours (Wed, May 2) to start planning
*) [6 month outlook] Do a workshop with the raspberry pies - we
provide the hardware, people come & learn how to use it, then take it home

- Other events:
*) Movie night: maybe Sunday, May 13th? Do Stewart's presentation at
5pm, movie & food at 6pm
     *) doing a garage sale of stuff in the space;
*) maybe partnership with Green Purpose - cross-promotion, makerspace
members get access to GP, collaboration on workshop re: recycling, etc, *Erich
to follow-up*
     *) show-and-tell: 2 possible events - Green Purpose &
string-plotter-bot guy (from Indy); *Stewart & Erich to follow-up*

Let me know if I missed anything.

See you around!
