Hi all-
Dave Johnson forwarded me info on the following story. If noone else can
follow up on this story (which I think would be a great story), I will,
but I'd rather have someone else follow up on it. Thanks!
Nancy

(From Dave):

The reason that The president of the Carpenter's union is pulling out of
the AFL-CIO is that he is a egomaniacal corrupt dictator.
What he is trying to do is create his very own corporate empire. His goal
once he has left the AFL-CIO is to attempt to steal ALL the work of the
other Trade unions by using us as an army of scabs. By withdrawing from
the AFL-CIO, he will no longer be bound by article 20 and article 21 of
the AFL-CIO constitution that prohibits one union from stealing work from
another union and stealing members from another union. His plan is to
underbid all the other trades for work and eventually push down our wages
and benifits to accomplish this. Of course we have ALMOST no recourse to
fight it since he has stripped us ( the members ) of all our control and
check and balances. He also will use our pension monies ( approximately $
40 billion dollars, maybe even more ) to help accomplish this.

There is already a precedent established that gives us reason to believe
this. For the last several years there has been a large construction
project in Los Angeles ( L.A. Subway project ) , which is where McCarron
( Carpenter's national president ) is from.
On this project, which is being constructed by Tudor -Sablia Construction
Corp., carpenters have been doing the work of the ironworkers, operating
engineers, painters, and even the electricians. Why ? Because the
carpenters are now the lowest paid trade in the area. The contractor
benefits ( which by the way McCarron is a stockholder in and sits on the
board of directors and is PAID over $ 50,000 a year to be one of the
board members ) and the national carpenters union leadership benefits
because they have more dues monies coming in from all the extra man hours
being worked on the project, that would have not been the case if the
other trades had been allowed to do their work.

It gets better ! The financial consultant for Tudor-Sablia Construction,
Richard Blum, also manages large segments of the Carpenters pension fund
monies. Blum just happens to be the husband of U.S. Senetor Diane
Feinstein of California.
And there is even more info.
