Most of the state legislature's work happens during the next couple
months. The pro-gun control group Million Mom March is tracking several
bills in the legislature. This would be a good story to track, given the
strength of the pro-gun groups around here, and the courage one needs to be
"targeted" by the pro-gun fanatics. (During his congressional race, Tim
Johnson commented that people care about two things around here, one is
keeping their guns. I don't recall what the other was.)

>>Consideration& but so did one Pro-Gun Bill, and 3 others are up in
>>Committee on Thursday, 3/15.
>>
>>GUN CONTROL BILLS PASS OUT OF COMMITTEE FOR FULL HOUSE CONSIDERATION, 3/14
>>
>>Thanks to the phone calls, e-mails, and letters from all of you, many of
>>the gun control bills we advocated for moved out of the House Judiciary
>>Civil Law Committee (Jud 1), but we still have our work cut out for us.
>>
>>During the House Judiciary Civil Law Committee (Jud 1) hearing on
>>Wednesday 3/14, three gun control bills were voted out of Committee for
>>consideration by the full House of Representatives.
>>
>>Bills voted out of House Judiciary Civil Law Committee (Jud 1):
>>1) Licensing Dealers at the State Level H.B. 1941
>>2) FOID Card Reform H.B. 1942
>>3) Closing the Gun Show Loophole H.B. 1945
>>
>>Feel free to contact the following Committee members who voted in favor
>>of moving these bills out of committee to thank them for their support:
>>
>>Chairperson Rep. Tom Dart (D-28, Chicago) 217-782-8200

>>1) Limiting Purchases to One Handgun Per Month H.B. 1940
>>2) Assault Weapons Ban H.B. 1946
>>3) Ban on Large Ammunition Feeding Devices H.B. 1947
>>
>>While we have made progress on our issue, we now must focus on getting
>>support on the full House floor for the gun control bills that passed out
>>of Committee.
>>
>>
>>PRO-GUN BILLS UP FOR COMMITTEE HEARING ON THURSDAY, 3/15 AT 8:00 AM
>>
>>The House of Representatives Judiciary Criminal Law Committee (Jud 2) is
>>meeting this morning (Thursday, 3/15) to consider three pro-gun bills
>>that were voted out of the sub-committee last week. One bill was in fact
>>voted out of both the sub-committee and the full committee last week, and
>>is now up for consideration on the full House floor.
>>
>>Bills to be considered by the full House Judiciary Criminal Law Committee
>>(Jud 2) on Thursday, 3/15 at 8:00 AM:
>>1) Concealed Carry House Bill 401
>>2) Preemption for regulating rifles or shotguns House Bill 403
>>3) Preemption for registering guns House Bill 414
>>
>>Bills already passed out of full Committee and up for consideration on
>>the full House floor:
>>1) Preemption of regulating guns, ammunition, and gun accessories in any
>>way House Bill 482
>>
>>
>>It is very likely that the Concealed Carry bill, and possibly the 3 other
>>pro-gun bills, will move out of this Committee on today for consideration
>>to the House floor.
>>
>>The larger battles on all of these bills (the ones we support and oppose)
>>will take place in the full House of Representatives. We need to be
>>prepared to take action over the next few weeks. Please watch for
>>additional information updates and Action Alerts on developments in
>>Springfield. You can contact your legislators at any time to let them
>>know your position on the gun issue. Visit ICHV s website, click on
>>Public Policy, and enter in your zip code + 4 to get your legislators
>>contact information.
>>
>>Thank you again for your phone calls, e-mails, and letters regarding the
>>many bills that were in Committees this past week. With your continued
>>help, we can make our views know in Springfield and make a difference in
>>Illinois.
