Subject: KPFA Apprenticeship application

Thought some of you might be interested in getting some radio skills. I went
through the program (group 17) and learned a great deal. This is an
INTENSIVE program and focuses on group dynamics as well as technical skill.
The application process is competitive, so if you have questions, feel free
to contact me.

The KPFA Apprenticeship Program is an intense, 12-month affirmative action
training program geared to bring women and people of color into Pacifica
Radio.

*Build bridges with different communities!

*Record and edit sound!

*Design and mix the soundscapes of your imagination!

*Learn radio from the basics up to advanced levels!

Since 1985 the program has taught radio production and engineering to people
from many cultural, social, political and ethnic backgrounds. Each
participant represents a link to their community and leaves the program with
a greater understanding of the diverse communities in the Bay Area.

The training program is divided into three phases:
Phase One: Theory, Basic Radio Production & Group Process.

Phase Two: Engineering & Feature Production.

Phase Three: Leadership, Digital Editing, Advanced Production and Live
Recording.

The program is intense, demanding, and comprehensive. Night classes are on
Tuesday & Thursday nights, 7-9 PM. Apprentices spend one business day each
week working at KPFA.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why does KPFA need an Affirmative Action Training Program?

*Because Affirmative Action is intended to remedy a history legacy of
discrimination.
*Because Affirmative Action is about creating equality and healing
divisions.
*Because women and people of color are consistently underrepresented in the
structuring of our media, economic, education, political and legal systems.
