Apply now to attend a two-day conference for
journalists from
Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan,
Minnesota, Missouri,
Ohio and Wisconsin. The conference will be held
outside Chicago
on Oct. 3-4, 2003, and will be cosponsored by the
Casey
Journalism Center on Children and Families (CJC) and
Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.


Up to 25 professional print, broadcast and online
journalists will be
selected to examine juvenile crime and justice issues.
Renowned
experts will discuss what's known about juvenile
offenders, trends in
treatment and punishment, the politics of juvenile
crime, and more.
Guest journalists will share ideas for reporting
stories that engage
audiences and dispel stereotypes. Fellowships cover
one night's
lodging, materials and a travel subsidy.

Applications must be received by Monday, Aug. 25,
2003.

The Casey Journalism Center on Children and Families
is a
nonprofit resource for journalists who cover the
issues, policies and
institutions that affect the lives of children and
families in the
United
States, particularly the disadvantaged. CJC is a
program of the
Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University
of Maryland.
