IMC Radio News Minutes - Dec 7, 2004
Attending:
The Four S's (Sandra Ahten, Sooz Kim, Scott Edwards, Sarah Lazare)

After much discussion of possible formats we decided to proceed with the
existing format with a little more definition in order that we might be
ready to promote the program for regional syndication.

We are going to have local / regional / and global newsbites. Local is going
to be limited to 4 minutes. (That way other sources can decide to include it
or not). We are going to try to have local stories that have a regional
twist. We are going to try to have the global newsbite and stories have a
regional connection.

Scott is going to be contributing global stories using sources like Human
Rights Watch, Amnesty, and CEHRV (Coordination Effor for the Human Rights
Violation) etc. Not using mainstream or newswire sources.

For the next two weeks he is going to contribute 2 global newsbites and
we'll reevaluate then. He is asked to have them emailed to the group by
Saturday and be prepared to read them on Sunday am.

Sarah suggests we have a request for headlines. I say we should have a
request that people put headlines on the newswire... and then we should use
those folks... as sources for headlines.

Sarah has contact at WQNA in Springfield. She thinks it is a college
station. When we are ready for syndication she will contact him.

She also wants to give him information on DN! (she wants to contact Randall
regarding this recotton at earthlink.net)

Sarah is getting audio on Books To Prisoners. This will be her first
feature. She might produce it with help from Paul Kotheimer or ask Dave to
produce it for her if she is out of town.

Sarah wants to do a headline for FSRN. She will contact Danielle for
mentoring in getting a FSRN headline after finals.

Weekly producer will be responsible for putting story markers in the final
copy of the show. Will also be responsible for producing a first draft
synopsis of the show for posting with the show.

Sooz Kim is willing to be responsible for uploading show in "tracks" (by
story) and for proofing synopsis. She is available on Monday AM. or anytime
on Tuesday next week. Dave please respond to group as to when you would be
available to train her on this.

Dave can you go ahead and do it this week?
Is Dewey fixed?

Can we please please please get a web techie volunteer to maintain a simple
site for us where we can have past shows and their synopsis archived? We
need this before we can go to stations and offer syndication.

Thanks one and all.

SAndra
