[Imc-tech] IMC DSL connection:

I went over to the IMC to work on the situation today.

First of all the PC/firewall/NAT gateway box was down. The monitor and
keyboard were plugged into dewey and the gateway had been powercycled
and couldn't boot up because no keyboard was connected.

I got that back up and running but I couldn't get into the BIOS to
change the bootup test for the keyboard.

But that still didn't fix the problem. I could ping 64.5.74.241 (our
DSL router) from the outside world. From inside the IMC I could ping
64.5.74.245 (our gateway/NAT linux box) but from that box I could not
get to the router. I tested the cable. I tested the network jack on
the linux box. Nothing can talk to the ethernet ports on the DSL
router.

I think we need a new DSL router. I think the ethernet ports on our
DSL router are dead.

I called Sol Tec and spoke with Rob. He did some tests and agreed that
the router probably was dead. He suggested that they may be able to
service it. He was going to ask Joe some questions before he had me
bring in the router and then he was going to call me back.

He never called me back.

I called back and was told that Rob had left for the day and that Joe
was out of the office. I left a voicemail for Joe.

If a bunch of us are working with Sol Tec simultaneously we're going
to need to make sure we coordinate. Danielle, what contact have you
had and with what results?

We need to try really hard to get them to give us a replacement router
of the same type as the one we have. In the past the routers they've
given us as replacement routers have SUCKED really badly. The model we
have in there is an extremely solid performer and we want to stick
with that model if at all possible. If not they need to give us some
absolute assurance that the router they are giving us is DEFINITELY
compatible with our line.
