[UCIMC-Tech] [Imc-bookkeeper] Finance computer state

I understand the frustration. I will concede that open office does take some
adjustment. I'm not suggesting that we don't get Windows/office, I want to
confirm that what we have now can't meet Carol's needs. If these documents
were sent via email, can some examples be sent to Brian and I? I'd like to
at least have Brian or I take a look at these docs in open office and
compare them with Word and Excel. It's been my experience that the
formatting can differ slightly but that functionality and compatibility
should be equivalent. Let's look at these documents together and confirm
that they are incompatible. I'm pushing on this because no one has reached
out to Tech about this or to Brian individually for technical assistance on
this issue that I'm aware of. Let's sit down and look at the documents with
Carol and see what the case is. I can do this anytime today or tomorrow
after 5PM. Brian is available tomorrow during the business day.

In the future, please also know that you and Carol can reach out to Brian,
myself, and other members of the tech group to provide whatever one-on-one
or group training or help that is needed.

Sorry about the push-back on this, but it's just not as simple an issue as
buying Windows and Office. We're signing on to maintain current, legal
licenses for these products, which places additional costs on the IMC down
the line. Tech will have to develop additional workflows to manage Windows
workstations, and likely purchase or maintain additional antivirus software
as well.

It's perfectly fine if this is what's necessary, but I just want to make
sure that we've confirmed these incompatibilities first.

Hi Chris,

There are several files that Carol receives regarding the AmeriCorps grant
that she is unable to open, both in Word and Excel so there may be some
issue with formatting, functionality and compatibility. Unfortunately, she
has to log onto the finance computer to open, read, and/or print these
files, and this often means that we both need access to the same computer at
the same time. It also means that those documents are also stored on the
finance computer and perhaps now lost.

We need to find a workaround so that Carol and I do not have to share a
computer to open any files. We should be provided with the tools to do our
job. When I arrive at the office, I want to be able to get to work and so
does she. It is extremely frustrating.
