Hi,

At the last general membership meeting of the Makerspace, we discussed
the proposal that Acorn Active Media
turn over administration of Chambana, net to the IMC proper and that the
default locus of sysadmin talent
at the IMC currently lands in the Makerspace. ( The primary volunteer
administrators of AAM are no longer local.)

So, Emily Knox has posted a survey to Google Docs to gauge people's
interest and talent for building a pool
of volunteers to start maintaining, building and growing Chambana.net:

The AAM folks are still available to provide assistance with any
problems we might encounter. Some of them
even come back to town to visit occasionally.

Here is my set of reasons for keeping Chambana.net local:

The UC-IMC is an anchor institution of UC2B:
http://uc2b.net/about/community-anchor-institutions/
Content served from the IMC is connected at 1 Gigabit-per-second locally
to the Champaign-Urbana city limits
on the UC2B fiber loop.
Keep Chambana.net independent of centrally-owned, monolithic media
outlets! This is like a central tenet of
the IMC.
Anonymity of decentralization keeps Chambana.net off the NSA's radar.
(Security through obscurity.)

Thanks,
