After looking at it more, I think the problem is definitely the spam 
filter. If it's alright with the editors, I'm going to mark all the 
content currently labeled as spam as "not spam," then disable the 
filter. The content will remain unpublished, so some of it will probably 
have to be gone through to republish what was wrongly marked as spam.
