This is my thoughts after I went to Paris for the first time and
remembering all of the male anchor reporters I saw on TV who almost always
have
to wear at least a shirt and tie--and also reading the poetry style of
e.e. cummings. The poem pays homage to all three stuff.

            THE LINDEN JOURNALIST

                    by

         Charles Joseph Smith ("Linden")

i am a 'linden journalist'
because when i write,
i feel just like dancing
when i am typing.

just like the
beautiful, wonderful
famous blind celebrity
who can play the harmonica,
the piano,
and sing,
(stevie wonder),
i can rock
back and forth,
back and forth,
back and forth...

just like someone
humming a tune.

i am the linden journalist,
for i already made a diary
since i went in july
to a place that i dreamt
for five full years--
paris!!!!!!
it was so beautiful,
and even more than this beautiful,
is that i met a friend there
after a 2-year absence--
i wrote and wrote
during my stay in france,
and it was so lovely,
and i feel so satisfied
after i went back to chicago--
my hometown.

i am the linden journalist,
for i feel like the lindenbaum,
my lower body staying still,
while my typing fingers
represent the leaves and branches
swaying in the wind....

so, what do you think
of all of this?......

URH, 101 Daniels Hall I feel like a happy, little lily flower when
1010 W. Green St. I dance to the salsa music. But I can dance
Urbana, IL 61801-3097 to almost everything I can think of."
