ABOUT POEMS THAT GO

"a very strong, interesting site . . . hybrid between a poetic experience
and a cinematic experience"
--Chronicle of Higher Education 6/12/01

"a batch of hallucinatory, animated poetry"
--New City Chicago, 08/30/01

Poems that Go <www.poemsthatgo.com> exists to unite words, design, music and
motion and to celebrate poetry through technology and the Internet. The
Editors write that: "We are interested in exploring a new form of poetry -
one that abandons the traditional approach to literature. One which
expresses experience, ideas and emotions through motion graphics and
animation. One which integrates these art forms to challenge the definition
of poetry. One which challenges you, the new writers and artists, to
discover extraordinary ways to express emotion." Megan Sapnar and Ingrid
Ankerson will show work from the site. The demonstration/reading will be
followed by a discussion led by Professor and Associate Dean of the Graduate
School and Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in the Arts
at Northwestern University, Michelle Citron.

The Interactions series will continue November 11th when, as part of the
Chicago Humanities Festival, the 2001 Electronic Literature Award Winners
John Cayley and Caitlin Fisher will read at the Chicago Cultural Center. In
January 2002, Shelley Jackson, author of Patchwork Girl,
<www.ineradicablestain.com> will read from the classic and
other works.

This series of events brings together some of the most innovative artists
working in electronic literature with humanities scholars, who will lead
audience and author discussions of works shown.

The Interactions series is sponsored by the Illinois Humanities Council,
the Illinois Arts Council, the Chicago Humanities Festival, and the
University of Illinois - Chicago Communication Dept.
