if the farm subsidies which seem so unfair to the
farmers in the third world
scratch that 
the developing world
(there is no "third world" anymore -- there is just the first
and the other)
is important to the guy in Iowa who can't sell corn
without it
--but--
if the rest of the world thinks a war on Iraq
is against our best interests
(us being a part of the world)
why are we going to rally the
rest of the world against it?
unless it was some kind of
campaign promise we made
to the oil barons who
bought our election?
is what I think
but this is all besides
the point
I mean
I
starting writing this
to you
as
a
letter
to complain
about the state
of New Jersey.

shit; that's already a poem
I'll save my complaints
against NJ for
the next.

But anyway just
as a nondiplomat
nonnews
poet
I
am
sad about
where we
are headed.
