[Newspoetry] Sacrifice (a) Science? Why not Economics?

If Missouri goes the way
of neighbor Kansas,
someday when I have kids,
I'll have to ford the river,
move to bluer pastures,
so my kids can be taught
science undiluted with religion.

Ironically, I know a few
religious day schools in town
which would suit my needs.
But most likely
the school district where I grew up
and would send my kids
would just skip that chapter.
The teacher would tell the students,
"read it if you wish,
believe it if you wish,
but you won't be tested on it."

If the state required
the chapter be taught
the day before he'd announce
"Tomorrow I will teach that chapter.
Show up if you wish.
You won't be penalized if you don't."

Of course this is no answer
for the kids who will be forced
to listen to the crap.
