Dear friends,

As you know, the federal assault weapons ban is set to expire on
September 13, 2004 unless Congress takes action to pass new
legislation. If Congress does not act, these dangerous military-style
assault weapons will once again become legal.

Despite the fact that legislation has been introduced in the U.S.
House and Senate to renew the ban, many members of Congress -
including leaders like House Speaker Dennis Hastert - do not want
debate or votes on Assault Weapons Ban legislation before the
November elections. That's why CCHCC is joining with other groups
throughout the state to call on Speaker Hastert to take action.

Please join Champaign County Health Care Consumers in a day-long
call-in campaign to Speaker Dennis Hastert asking him to bring the
Assault Weapons Ban to a vote in the U.S. Congress! We are aiming to
generate 50 calls to Speaker Hastert's district office today and
tomorrow (June 24-25th). Your call could bring us one call closer to
that goal!

---> CLICK ON THE LINK BELOW TO TAKE ACTION:
        http://www.prairienet.org/cchcc/AWB/call_Hastert.html

On the website, you'll find:

  1. A sample script
  2. Hastert's phone number
  3. A "I took action" form to send us to let us know you called
  4. A letter you can download, sign, and mail in to Rep. Hastert

Thanks again for taking action and for your support of CCHCC's
efforts to renew and strengthen the federal Assault Weapons Ban.
Don't forget to visit the website, call Hastert, and let us know that
you took action!

Sincerely,

Brooke Anderson, Community Organizer
