I just wanted to let AWARE know that I'm working with a group of first year
law students to form a chapter of the National Lawyers' Guild on campus.
For those of you that don't know much about the NLG, its website is here
www.nlg.org. Many of you might be familiar with the NLG activists who have
been at many of the large anti-war protests wearing "Legal Observer" hats.
I believe they also were part of the defense of many of the folks that have
been illegally detained and arrested in various large anti-war protests.

The law school NLG chapter is going to be part of a larger campus
organization of professional students called the Coalition of Professional
Students for Social Change made up of law students, med students, vet
students, etc.

We expect to host a lunch and movie on March 1 - the National Day Against
the Death Penalty and a panel on the legalization of medical marijuana on
March 8. I promise to keep AWARE informed.

I just thought I'd let you know about this because NLG will certainly be
into co-sponsoring AWARE events and such. I've been involved with the NLG
on a national level for some time and I think it's a very quality
organization.
