The School for Designing a Society and the Gesundheit! Institute are
sponsoring a four-day intensive in health care systems design, October
11-14. Presenters will include Claudia Lenhoff of CCHCC, Paul Glover,
founder of Philahealthia, a nonprofit, member-owned health financing
system, Patch Adams, six recent US graduates of Cuban medical school
ELAM, and others. Participants will include doctors, nurses, medical
students, healers, patients, planners, activists from around the
world.

The intersections between the sorry but influential state of US health
care and the disastrously influential state of US militarism are
many--including inadequate care for veterans, disregard of
psychological and chemical conditions for soldiers and civilians in
Iraq, role of the cost of health care in the economic pressures on
young people who decide to join the military, lingering environmental
effects on areas of previous wars.

We would like to invite representatives of AWARE to attend the
intensive, with a waiver of the conference fee. For more information
and to register online, visit
http://www.patchadams.org/education/healthcare_intensive/

We are also seeking people who would be willing to put up out-of-town
participants, particularly medical students who will be attending on
scholarship. If you'd like to offer a place to stay during the three
nights of the intensive (Thursday, Friday and Saturday), please write
to Melanie at melaniemelzer at gmail.com

Thanks!
Mark Enslin
