We both know the sad truth: in the past few years, the Wall Street banks that caused our country's financial meltdown have been given a free pass, even as millions of Americans have lost their homes, their jobs, and their savings.
And those to blame for the crisis have never been brought to justice.
Right now, a group of state attorneys general is negotiating with the banks about what kind of justice they'll face for their role in the mortgage crisis.
Unfortunately, rather than holding them accountable, some politicians still want to let Wall Street off the hook. Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner are pushing for a nice, big gift to the banks: immunity from prosecution for potentially defrauding homeowners and investors, and pennies on the dollar back to us for their crimes.
                                            It's a horrible deal.
Fortunately, some states' attorneys general, like New York's Eric Schneiderman, are starting to stand up against it and flatly rejecting this scam. But we need more of them to unite -- and we need you to ask your state's attorney general to stand up to the pressure, too.
Click here to use Progressives United's easy online call tool -- and ask your attorney general to stand up to the bad bank settlement right now.
Once you've made your call, don't forget to let us know what your attorney general's office said. Many A.G.'s haven't made public statements on this potential massive giveaway to the banks, and we need to know where they stand in order to plan our national organizing strategy.
If you're one of the thousands of members of Progressives United who have used our call tool in the past, you know how quick and easy it is to use.
All you need to do is enter in some basic information, and we'll connect you to the office of your attorney general automatically.
We'll even provide you with simple talking points to remind you what to say when your call connects. It couldn't be easier.

When I was in the Senate, I voted against the deregulation that led to the financial crisis. Last year, when banking lobbyists tried to convince both parties to water down the new Wall Street reform bill, I stood firm.
And this year, you helped me found Progressives United to fight back against corporate corruption wherever and whenever we find it -- like these big Wall Street banks trying to wriggle off the hook.
It shows the power of the banks' influence that they have attorneys general from so many states -- and the Obama administration itself -- pushing for such a lopsided deal.
Let's show our power. Let's push back.

Thank you for uniting as a progressive,
