Mark Twain is supposed to have said that History doesn't repeat
itself, but it does rhyme. The child-killer in the White House is more
aware of the rhymes than most Americans: he's consciously working to
head off a repetition of the Sixties, that drove two presidents from
office. (See "Audacity of Hope," for his plans.)

To that end, in a shameful ceremony this week, Obama gives the Medal
of Freedom to Bob Dylan, who should have broken into song, about
"fastening all the triggers for others to fire, sitting back and
watching the death count get higher."

Meanwhile this week, former head of state Charles Taylor gets 50 years
for his role in the 14 year Liberian civil war (250,000 dead). Bush
stands with Obama and gets an oil painting in the White House. His
role in the Iraq War (over 1 million dead) bears no interest to the
International Criminal Court. "Such nice people, such pleasant
company," writes Vijay Prashad.
