I had a significant health issue that needed some attention recently and I
went to the local hospital emergency room with my problem and I spent
two days at that hospital as an outpatient.
The hospital is  a bit less than 3 miles
from where we live. I seldom go to the doctor unless i am sick.  I
do have a checkup about every year though.

All patients with new problems are processed by a doctor in the emergency
room who evaluates your problem and routes you to a lab for some initial 
testing
and to a specialist clinic or two on the upper floors.  Mind you this is a
major hospital in one of the largest cities in the world, and it was full
of people.  I never had to wait more than 10 minutes to see a doctor
or to get processed for various ultrasound, blood work, etc.

There were no forms to fill out at any time.  (Have you every had the
measles?  If so how many?... )

All of the lab work was coordinated to the doctors ordering it via his 
computer terminal.
He typed in orders and printed them out and sent me to where i needed to
go get tests or whatever.  They put the results of the test and the blood
work everything in my hand after the tests were run.  Everything in Chinese
but no problem i could read the biochemical and hematologic profile and saw
what was up.

I had to go get my own iv stuff from the pharmacy and a bottle of saline 
and
an iv set.  They make the patients carry their own stuff and it cuts the
cost and reduces people traffic.

At the end of the first day they gave me an iv and sent me home.
The second day they ran more tests and
prescribed me some pills.  I was already much better by the 2nd day.

I got better very quickly and am recovered.

I had to stand in line for about 20 minutes to pay my bill.
The total bill came to about $250 USD including all of the examinations,
all of the meds, the iv, the needles they used, everything itemized.
One major expense was for a drug made by Pfizer.  It cost USD$10 for a
two week supply.

The USA does not make enough doctors to service the population and 
therein lies one of the
major problems.  The other problem is that americans are grossly 
overcharged for medicines.

I didnt have to make an appointment with a doctor and wait days to be seen.
I saw two specialists the same day I arrived at the hospital.
I didnt have to fill out any endless forms about intricate details of my 
medical history.
The doctor looked at me and looked at my chart and asked me a few 
well-directed questions.
I did not have to deal with any snotty (snooty) medical secretaries. Not 
one.
It did take me most of 2 days spent at the hospital but I am ok now.
